Just received the Senn HD-650 in the mail.........

Wow!

IMHO (so far, early use, pre-burn-in)

The sound is...........luxurious, lush, detailed, impactful, groovin', toe-tappin', multi-genre-capable, comfortable to wear.

I have not found them laid-back, dull or boring, bright or veiled.

They seem to have a lovely synergy with the Gilmore Lite with Dedicated Power Supply - perhaps it keeps things detailed and articulate (preventing any of the sometimes-reported "veil").

I'll give them plenty of break-in time - and give my wallet a rest before considering an aftermarket cable upgrade.

Any suggestions for cable upgrade when I'm ready? I've read the various reviews on the site, but am still a bit unclear as to the sonic signature differences between the various cables.

Just thought I'd share this with you all.

They are awesome headphones, and I think you will have a hard time ever parting with them. The better you treat them in terms of quality recordings and associated equipment, the better they become.

I absolutely love the HD650s with electronic music. The sound is just as close to flawless as I've heard, and the closest I've ever heard headphones sound like speakers, quite literally.

Cheers,
Geek

Yep, Geek. That's how I feel about the 650s already.

By the way, in the quote in my thread title (from Elton John's 'Bennie and the Jets') I was referring to plugged-in music more generally (i.e. rock, alternative, etc.), rather than "Electronica", a genre to which I listen to only very little. But, I've found so far, and I'm sure I will find with further listening, that the 650s do many genres well.

Thanks for the response!

Just wait till you get a good aftermarket cable for them. Pure bliss

I completely agree with your views and recommend the Zu Mobius cable.

If you like them out of the box you will love them in a couple of months!

True, and, its hard to believe cause stock Sennheiser cables suck compared to aftermarket cables.
