I just got some K518 DJ's and wondered if they are a updated version or fake. They have a different strain relief on the jack than i have seen in pics the adapter is not screw on and also the swivel hinges swing freely, where some people have said they are fairly stiff. Here are some pics

I'd call up AKG and give them the serial number and they should know.

I doubt faking budget-phones leaves an interesting enough margin to take the trouble it takes to fake them. How do they sound?

i think they sound like the real ones. I think they are genuine.

Where did you get them? It looks like the cable that other portable AKGs have. Maybe they are just recabled, here in hungary recabled AKGs are pretty common.

yep i think they changed the cable thats all. They are brand new so not recabled by anyone. Thanks for the help. I am pretty sure they are genuine with an updated cable.
