New Minidisc player/recorder with OLED display

I think it's products like this amazing looking MD unit that Steve Jobs has always admired Sony. Sony's CEO was onstage with Steve at Macworld with hints at working together further in the future. Could you imagine if Sony ditched their whole content wing and let Apple do all of their syncing through iTunes with ATRAC and AAC support for their MD and HD units. Seems like a win win situation to me especially as the MP3 market becomes more of a commodity in the next few years.

I have to side with others that have already stated that this MD unit does not have any of the features that the most popular HD MP3 players have today. Not that the HiMD should be like a HD Mp3 player, but look at what the consumers are purchasing.

I would like for my HiMD player to have: playlist on the fly, delete on the fly,
some sort of Gapless/Crossfeed function, M3U Playlisting, and use technology that they already have: EQ, Optical Out, AM/FM tuner from remote, etc.

I know Sony is not going to go the way of developing a player that is detected as a Universal Mass Storage Device, but IMO I would like to see MY HiMD function WITHOUT ITUNES and/or Sonic Stage.

"Its a win win situation as the MP3 market becomes more of a commodity in the next few years." And lets not forget about "USB ON THE GO!" You could connect the next generation HiMD players to other HD, Flash, HiMD, PCs, PDAs, Digital Cameras, Digital Portable Media Players, and maybe even Smart Phones!!!!

I am also so used to my 20GIG storage space on my HD MP3 player. But carrying around multiple 1 GIG HiMD discs is not a pain or a bother. And from the MD/HiMD Sony technology you gain LONG battery life, good sound, portable size, good recording capabilites, etc. I wouldn't mind going to HiMD MP3 playback over HD and Flash (if some company could produce a product with the functionalities that most consumers want.)

Well it shows Sony's Progression.

I always thought Sony's actual hardware players are best in terms of design and looks. Shame they were all plagued with Sony's proprietary/copy right crap. Hopefully giving in to native mp3 support is just one of many steps Sony will take in the good direction.

umm...minidisc has all along being able to play gapless. don't know if the mp3 support will take away this or not though.

i believe the hiMD unit allows one to use it as a mass storage device, but not transfer music, much like the ipods.

Only one problem I've seen so far with it is that it looks washed out. Will we be able to see it in use? It can't be easy to see in the daylight. Not sure about this one.

I find it pretty difficult to believe that your DVD player really has an OLED display instead of LCD.

No, it doesn't have an OLED display. I've seen many like that, they're cheap imitations, they're just LEDs behind a mirrored finish piece of plastic, cheap as crap and it looks it.
