How can you compare completely different headphones, traditional dynamic and electrostatic ?

I own new Jecklin float QA and just had a chance to audition JPS Abyss AB1266 with Bakoon amplifier.
With different setup it is difficult to compare the Jecklin vs Abyss.  If I decide to own the Abyss  I may
be able to directly compare the Abyss and the Jecklin using speaker amplifier setup.  The power supply
of the Jecklin has another pair of speaker post which can be connected to the Abyss via the adapter cable.
Both of them are excellent headphones which excel in term of soundstage, transparency, imaging and
instrumental separation.  The treble of the Abyss is more splarking while its bass is better in term of amount,
layering and depth.   I like both of them more than the Stax SR009.   Both of them are very comfortable
but my wife said that the new Jecklin Float is the ugliest headphone in my collection.

The price of the Abyss is very high but I think it belongs in the same league as the bass heavy Sony MDR R10
(same price almost 6000 US dollars).  I will try to compare them later.

Hi. I am considering the jecklin QA and the Taket H2+ & TR2. I mainly listen to heavy metal/rock, newwave, pop, electronic/instrumental etc. My favourite headphones so far have been the PS1000 and AKG K1000 plus LCD-2. After reading this thread and others I am kind of thinking of going for the Taket but still curious how the Jecklin might compare?

Update: I ordered the Taket H2+ from Japan - going to be really fun to give these a try

      The choice that I have to make now  is that I should add the Abyss into my collection or not.
I will try to compare the Abyss with my R10 whether I need the Abyss or not.  However it seems
that I start saving for the Abyss.
       You may ask Muppetface about this to get a better picture.   However I think it depends on
the music that you like.   The new Jecklin Float QA is very good for all type of music except those
that you need powerful bass  while the main advantage of the Abyss is its bass depth, impact and quantity.
With its bass it may not be very good for classical (baroque and early classical).  For Romantic period
classical or later period, it is very good.  I have tried the Abyss with Stravinsky : The Rite of Spring Eiji Oue hirez recording
and it sounds very exciting.  I hope that I have more chance to try the Abyss with Messiaen : Turangalila Symphony
of Chailly SACD, it should be fun .

      I agree with you that I will also choose the TakeT H2+ & TR2   for the music you like.  I think you will like it more than PS1000, AKG
K1000 and LCD2.   The new Jecklin may not be very good for metal especially thrash metal.  With other genre of music that you mentioned,
it is very good too if you are not basshead.  Right now I can not tell about the Abyss with your type of music but it should be good too.  I have
less time to try the Abyss with metal i.e. AC/DC back in black : you shook me all night long.  It was very good too but I need more
experience.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to hear the H2+ could be a good match for my type of music. I am currently liking my modded K1000s a lot and it has piqued my interest in some other more unique setups like the Float QA, H2+, Ergo AMT etc. Comparing technology and price the H2+ seemed like a good place to jump in.

1. While the Float QA and its power supply works perfectly with a 12WPC stereo amp at normal volume, 30-60W is recommended for loud level of listening as the Float can draw more power and sound better at loud volumes.
 
2. They'll be releasing two new power supplies for the Float QA; while the original power supply was a transformer box, the new boxes will have built-in amplifier that meets the power demand of the Float QA. One will be built with a power amp, while the other will be an integrated amp with preamp volume control.

I think we should ask Dr Gilmore to design or adapt one specifically for the Foat QA.  Likely to be a whole lot better than a commercial effort.

A BHSE, T2 or KGSSHV should have no problem driving the Floats once you remove the limiting resistors on the outputs.  The original Jecklin Ergo amp was a far cry from any one of those amps.  It uses stacked ECC81's as the output tubes, in SRPP which naturally isn't SRPP when dealing with electrostatics. 
 
There is the bias to content with too but no problem generating +1200VDC from the B+ in any of those amps.
