Apple's iPods are Apple's iPods...
underfeatured and overpriced.

Sony HD3 for my part.

it already features a 1.8" HDD and is the size of iPod mini. oh, and it also supports MP3 natively now

For the Mini, it's what's inside that counts. Apple can increase their margin on the Mini by going with a 5GB Seagate micro HD instead of the more well established Hitachi microdrive. Imagine if a defect were discovered in this brand new micro HDD? There will always be battery improvements, but I'm glad I got the Mini when I did.

If the color change from white to silver is true, that is a significant marketing error, as Apple will eliminate that defining characteristic.

The iPod mini has a smaller, more desireable 1" HDD and that's not going to change, and the bigger iPods already have 1.8" HDDs. I think the article was just pointing out that higher capacity and thinner 1.8" HDDs are on the horizon (1.8" is, of course, the diameter of the drive, not its thickness).

By the way, you're stuck with SonicStage and the Connect music store. You're a braver man than I.

So, simply because you and I both own an iPod, we should feel the right to get offended when Apple puts out something better 6 months later? By this logic, you probably hate every maker of every electronic device or tool or houseware that you own. It's technology, it's evolution, it's business, and it's improvement. Why on earth would this make you mad? It's a fact of life.

Besides, simply because they offer something better, it doesn't diminish what you have; you still have the same thing. Just because it has been improved on is only good news for everyone else, and shouldn't have a negative effect on how happy you are with what you have.

Yeah, man. I just bought a 40GB iPod, and I don't feel bitter to Apple's commitment to creating better products. In fact, I embrace it. Although I might have an outdated player, I still like it very much, and I am pretty excited at how quickly the manufacturers can innovate.

I've had a 3g 30gb for over 1 1/2 years. I was upset the first time apple upgraded to a 40gb drive until I realized that my 30gb was good enough and it still did everything I needed it do and did it well. Whatever they do with the 5g I hope it remains a music player first. Playing music is all I want from my ipod. I am using a mini at the moment and hoping for a bump to to 8 or 10 gb. When apple announces those, I will be first in line.

Seriously - the nerve of them, releasing new and better products!

What this industry needs is more stagnation, dammit!!

I would tend to agree. However you never know.

Silver might be the new White....
