I'm running an Asus Xonar DSX with a dual LME49990 amp chip. My HD558 got damaged and I wanted to replace it, so I bought the AD900x, but I'm wondering if I could have made a better choice. I'm willing to spend a bit more money if it'll be worth it.

I'd like to buy another Sennheiser because I loved the way it fit over the ears, so I'm thinking of returning this AD900x but I don't know which Sennheiser I could purchase. I'd like to buy something even better than the HD558/598, if my sound card can take advantage of it. I'd also like to know if replacing the AD900x with the AD1000x would be worth it.

I mostly listen to instrumental music, and I'm going to be using these headphones for gaming and watching movies as well.

I'm interested in hearing some of your opinions.

The Xonar DSX is decent at driving headphones, but I believe it has a high impedance output :frowning2:
And limited in the range of headphones it could drive.

I would think the AD900X is a decent upgrade, for music audio, over the HD558s.
A headphone amplifier with a low output impedance (connected to the DSX), like the Schiit Magni ($99) or O2 might help bring out better "detail" in the audio.
