New HD 800 very different than the old HD 800

Where is the sibilance everybody and his grandmother are complaining about, the overly bright treable ? - Nothing ! Where is the lack of bass ? This thing delivers the bass that is on the recording, nothing more but also nothing less.

+1
The HD800 is for me perfect as it is.

Chiming in a bit late, but I was also surprised when we compared Hekeli's HD800, his TH900, and my SR-507. His HD800 did not have any of the sibilance problems of the earlier serial numbers I've heard. IIRC his was a 22xxx serial, sounded better (well, more neutral and more consistently true to the instrument timbre) than the TH900 and in some ways better than the SR-507 (the Stax midrange was a tad warmer and more fluid, while its bass a tad loose in comparison).

How is the V200 in compare to the Lyr for the HD800?

I haven't tried it with the Lyr actually... I have the Lyr/Bifrost boxed up in a closet downstairs  :p
I might dig it out one day...

I do like the V200/HD800 combo, its pretty warm.  But I tend to prefer the sound of the A18 a bit more.  It's also a warm amp, but it seems slightly less 'fuzzy' in it's warmth than the V200.  But maybe I just need to play with the v200 settings a bit more.  It's currently set to Lift, -12 pre gain.

What I really want to do is go balanced.  I'm awaiting a balanced cable for the HD800 to come in the mail.  I also ordered the A28, which is a true balanced amp.
