Well, I looked through the first 10 pages of the search thread and didn't find an answer

I'm looking to get some nice closed headphones for use at school while I'm studying (long periods of time) and at home for lots of different things. My budget is ~$400 give wiggle room. They'll be used for all types of music except most of my indie rock stuff since I use Grados for that. I've been looking around and I see that the D5000's go for around that on the FS forums here. Any other recommendations would be appreciated

Thanks!

I would suggest Denon D2000, but since you mention D5000, you probably better with that. They are totally great headphones for all-rounder.

I've had both D2000 and D5000, tested them side-by-side -- they are almost identical, to me.
Only the slightest edge in SQ to the D5000, but not enough to justufy the extra cost (to *me*), so I returned them, and kept the D2000.
I already have Darth Beyer woodies, so that influenced my choice, too -- if not for my Darths, maybe I would have kept the pretty woodie D5000's instead.

But isn't the isolation on the Denons pretty bad? Or at least that's what I heard, and it might not even affect the OP's buying decision.

I'm not worried about maximum isolation. I'll use my IEM's for that. Just great sound, decent isolation, comfort is always nice, I will admit that the D5000's is very aesthetically pleasing

I may just get D2000's and get RS-2's.

Anywho, what are my other options in this price range?

are you thinking of dedicating some of that budget to moving up from a Go-Vibe V5? Seems weirdly out of place in your rig, especially if you add those D5000.

Haha.. I'm getting an amp in a month or so

No worries. Just looking at the headphone end of things right now. I'm seriously thinking about just getting D2000's and selling the SR225's for the RS-2's. What are my other options? There are a few audio technica's around this price range but I don't know much else ... Ultrasone?

always makes sense to take care of the headphones first, I fully agree. And I really like RS-2, probably my favorite Grado regardless of price. Much better than an SR-225 to my ears. Never heard the Denons yet.

Okay, time to resurrect this thread.

I've had a lot of people who don't think it would even be worth taking a K340 on campus with a portable amp so I'm still looking at my options.

Denon? Ultrasone? ATH? AKG? Beyers? Open phones that don't leak out too much sound? Price range ~$200-$400
