New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

UPDATED: After a few hours of trying to put everything in place, i managed to succeed putting on the angled earpadS; It was really time-consuming but worth it. The stage hits deeper now as we as the bass; However, I do feel less clarity with the new earpads compared to stock and they are getting really hot after period of usage.

Hey, I was just getting set to upload a picture. I struggled at first to get the pads on also and ended up just popping off the retainer ring, slipping the ring inside the pad and snapping the ring back on to the housing.

I'm not having your issue with the heat.

I would say that If Anything, Just Maybe I do notice the sound being a bit softer. I had considered removing the fabric that stretches between the back of the Brainwavz pads but decided to leave it. I'll be using these phones portably and am happy with the sound quality with the new pads to leave the fabric on as a bit of protection from dust, lint, etc getting in to the drivers as I lug these phones around.

I've listened to my T5p.2s for more than 5 hours at a time with the flat sheepskin brainwavz pads and have no complaints at all regarding comfort which is a massive upgrade for me compared to the stock pads. The guy who first showed me his set of T5p.2s with new pads was using the flat hybrid pad which I think is made of less soft materials but has the same shaped ear cavity. That gentleman seemed very into headphones (for example the portable Amp he had with him was a WA8 portable tube amp) He was very familiar with the sound stages of different specific headphones and said that those pads hadn't changed the sound quality much if at all to his ear. He said if anything there was slightly less treble and slightly more bass.

BillOhio: Thank you for the update on the sheepskin pads. I bought them flat because I did not want to change the direction of the driver.
But I did not know I could remove the retainer ring and ended up stretching the pads and putting them directly on the the cups. Does not look very clean but it fits perfectly and the driver is a bit closer to the ear. I ended up removing the protective fabric and it made some difference but I think should have leave it there for the reasons you explained. I also have hybrid pads and those will go on the retainer rings.

When you pop off the retainer ring be a bit carefull as with the ring off the driver is free to drop out of the housing, although if it does fall out it will still be connected to the frame by the wiring. Still, it's probably best to do one pad and then the other as opposed to trying to keep both drivers in their housings as you reattach the rings and pads

Going to post here and on the other thread

Can people comment on the differences between the T1 2nd gen and T5p 2nd gen.

My use scenario is an iPhone 7 running Tidal uncompressed > Mojo > Headphones

Looking for a small headphone system when I don't listen to my big 2 channel Naim/Linn. Key is toe taping rhythmic involvement ie PRAT.
Last time on these forums was 10 years ago. I had and returned a Sennheiser 650 - boring and veiled. Switched to Grado RS1 - much better. Toe tapping and exciting.
Playing around with the Elears (not impressed) - liked the B&W P7 wireless (fun) and going to try P9 and Sony Z1R.

Thanks

T1 is on the ref side which is more neutral, brighter and open while t5p is on the warm and musical side. The resolution of T1 is definitely higher.

I'm really wondering if T1 ,T5P gen 2 are being underrated. I couldn't imagine myself getting first gen as some people hate for bass-lite but Gen 2 has transformed them alot especially with the ability to upgrade cable.

I put considerable effort in my [dis-] assembly post... so you guys wouldn't have to go in "blind"

"Once you remove the retainer-ring, you should firmly "cup" the top of the headphone cup with the palm of your hand and slowly flip the cup over;
A very soft tap to the [concave] cup will dislodge the driver assembly into you hand. Let's not forget that there are cables involved,
so slowly lift the cup out of the way."

The Beyerdynamic company has destroyed a very good headphones (original T5p) by "improving" bass on the new 2-d generation one. Now it's not listenable at all, it's got boomy bass and it gives headache after some time of usage. I'ts actually unbelievable that Germans could do that !! Same thing happened to T1 2-nd. They destroyed their both flagship headphones.

Hmm. Maybe you should consider changing your nick from "LetsEvolve" to "If-It-Aint-Broke"...

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I've had my T5p.2s for a month or so and really enjoy them. I don't find the bass to be overly pronounced at all, unless of course the EQ at my source (Onkyo DAP) is misconfigured.

don't think so. If you don't the like the bass, just get gen 1 or upgrade cable which will fix to your taste

This is the first time ever I heard from anyone who thinks the T5p Gen 1 is better than the Gen 2 in such a dramatic way. Unless you EQ the music to a point where the bass is overly bloated, I can never imagine the Gen 2 being a bass-heavy headphone. OTOH, everyone who heard my T5p Gen 1, including prospective buyers, comments that the Gen 1 is too bass-shy to give it serious consideration, when they are looking for TOTL closed headphones. The Gen 2 is simply much more likeable in that regard. Not to say you are wrong, because to each his own I guess.

Just got them, as a replacement for Oppo PM3s. I am using them mainly in the office, driven by high-res music using a Denon 300 USB DAC on my workstation.

I tested Oppo PM3, Audeze EL8 and Ultrasone Signature Pro. Test scenario was driven by an iPhone7 and a mojo.

The Oppo, which I loved so dearly is ****. Utter trash. (ok, that is not true. Comparing a 400$ headphone to a 1000$ headphone is unfair). But man, did I feel like "I will never wear the oppo again" after comparing him to the T5P.

The T5P sounds better in all areas, more precise bass - not MORE bass, but precise, not mushy, not tones rolling into each other. The details in the music were just clearer defined, easier to position, more easy to find. There was no contest. This was clearly a big step up.

It is also a lot more comfy to wear, on the downside it leaks a little more sound.

Then I compared the T5P with the Audeze EL8.

I just did not like the sound of the EL8. Too analytical for me, too flat, not warm enough. Not what I expected after the reviews I read, but I just did not feel the music when listening.

Lastly the Ultrasone. Here, I got the distinct impression I just took a very expensive Dr. Beats headset with a new label. There was bass. And beside the bass, there was more bass. You could listen to a guitar and a voice, and there was bass :) Not really, but that was the signature I got from this headset.

I was always a fan of the musical nature of Beyerdynamic, this being the 3rd headphones I bought from them. I took the T5P home to the office and I am a happy camper now. Can wear them for hours, the sound is a clear step up, and my colleagues did not complain yet :)

The T5p Gen 1 had many plug, cables and baffle plate iteration updates over its product life. The early generation T5p Gen 1 was bass shy, my late T5p Gen 1 (serial 22XXX) has more bass than my HE500, a little bit less bass compare to my Yamaha Pro500 and E-mu Teak.

See the difference of the "reinforced ribs" on the different T5p baffle plate below:

I have not had my T5p opened up so I can't tell if it is the heavily ribbed baffle or non ribbed baffle giving more bass.

I like my T5p with DT1770 velour pads very much, making it sounds almost like my T1 Gen1 with Gen 2 pads.

Hey Guys! Unfortunately I've lost my Dunu DN2000j in ears phones recently.

Therefore I am looking for an in ear phone with a similar sound signature to my desktop Beyerdynamic T5P 2nd Gen (earpads exchanged for a little bit of bass boost). Since this is the corresponding thread for the T5P I hope that there are people who can recommend something based on our shared admiration for the T5P.

I am looking for a balanced signature with micro detail, without getting sibilant and a big soundstage. I rather prefer a tilt towards a warm than a cold signature.

Are there any comparable earphones in the bracket up to 300€?

I also consider used headphones.
I don't want another pair of the Dunus, as their treble frankly was a little bit too hot for me at times.

Any suggestions are welcome!
