The norwegian magazine "lyd & bilde",had an exellent review of the t5p 2 gen.It was the best portable headphone they had ever heard.Right up there with the HD800 and pioneer se master 1.I think they even thougt it was better then oppo pm-1 if im not wrong :D

Thanks for the reply. Do you think the Solist would work since I have to watch my pennies a little. My wife had a very serious stroke a couple of months ago and her recovery is going to be a very long process. Financially I am taking a huge hit (she was a nurse) but my music, along with my faith, is what is helping me get through everything. I don't mind spending what I need to spend for quality as now music almost a matter of survival for me, but I have to really manage my funds carefully. I will be spending a ton of time in a nursing home so a portable amp is probably where I should start with but I am not ruling out a powered and portable purchase if it helps improve quality. Sorry for getting a little personal but all of a sudden music is more than just a hobby.

Was just browsing this thread after having tried the T5P V1 today to read some impressions. Really sorry to hear about your wife.
*edit: scrolled down and saw you had ordered the Fiio E17 already, my bad.
For what it's worth, here's my experience with the V1.
I tried it using my iPhone 5S > Fiio Q1 (as amp) > T5P V1. Sound was very full, bass dug very deep, and overall sound was exciting but inoffensive. Bass probably could've been a little tighter, but I didn't have something more powerful / high-end on hand to try the T5P V1 with, so whether it was the headphones or the Q1 amp, for me, has yet to be seen.
The Q1 has been described to have an amp with a warm-ish tilt, so that could be why I got the sound that I did. For under $100, I think the Q1 did pretty well driving the T5P, and the E17 should serve you pretty well too.
Finally, to deviate from the T5P a little, I get what you mean when you say music is "more than just a hobby". I've lost a lot of vision recently and music has become very important in keeping me sane. Trying increasingly expensive gear and reading about the amazing technologies behind each innovation is great and all, but ultimately, the music is what always comes first  for me in this hobby.
All the best and stay strong man.

Got to try the T5P V1 today, and have a few questions I'd really like help with.
Some knowledge about my current situation:
i) I'm not planning to get the T5P any time soon. I'm still studying, don't have the resources to make such a large purchase on something relatively unnecessary in my life, and am happy to carry on trying more high-end gear before I decide on my 'end-game' headphones. It could be 5 years or more before I make the leap from sub-$400 to the $1000 league (this is important information because of Question 3).
ii) Currently, the T5P V1 is SGD $999 and the T5P V2 is SGD $1,499. As far as I can tell, these are pretty standard retail prices, even when comparing to US / Europe. FYI, Singapore tends to price horrifically higher than the rest of the world, sometimes 1.5 times, 2 times or even on the rare instance, 2.5 times US street/MSRP prices.
My questions:
1) Does anyone have a clear idea on what the difference is between the V1 and V2?
Some people claim it is 'warmer', 'has more bass', 'has less bass'... What's the actual consensus? Would help if you also mentioned the source and/or amp you're using, since some people here are saying the T5P can be amp picky.
2) How is the T5P 'hollow' in its sound?
Based on my demo today, the T5P V1 is very lush and warm sounding. Sure, its treble is excited and some may find it aggressive, but out of my Fiio Q1, 'hollow' really isn't the word to describe the T5P's sound. I know subjectivity is a crucial crucial factor, and amps used could possibly affect the sound, but any thoughts on how some people are calling the T5P V2 'hollow' on the forum threads? Can't imagine the V1 and V2 can sound that completely different.
3) Is it worth waiting for the T5P V2 to drop in price?
Based on the above info I gave, you'd see the original T5P V1 has dropped by a whopping SGD $500, assuming it retailed at $1,499 originally. I think, at $999, the T5P V1 is a really good proposition, but I don't want to shell out this kind of cash now, and the non-detachable cable is a real turn-off for something this expensive.
So, based on your personal experience, would you say it is worth waiting something like 5 years to jump onto the T5P V2 wagon? This is, of course, assuming Beyer lowers the price over time and/or releases a T5P V3 by then.
I know this is really long, but input would be appreciated. Thanks!

What is difficult for many of us is that without being able to try a lot of different combos it is hard to tell if we are getting the best we can get or if it can be better. I really wondered how anything could be much better than my PSB Mau1/Fiio X5 combo and I am seeing the T5P v2 is leaps above it using my new iBasso DX80, which has yet to be fully broken in. So I am sure the iBasso and T5P sound great together but I am still curious if an amp would help, but for now I am really enjoying my music. I think what is the more limiting factor now is the quality of music recordings.

Which leads me to a couple of more comments - I wonder how much of a noticeable difference there is between a FLAC file and a good quality MP3 file. I have purchased a few HDtracks albums and was disappointed in the quality, I am also curious about Apple's statements about wireless producing better quality music, I always believed the opposite was true. After purchasing my T5P 2 Apple phones will not even be a thought anymore.

PS - Does buying a headphone amp such as the Creative SoundBlaster E5 with blue tooth mean I could use the iBasso DX80 and E5 to send music to my Fugoo XL portable speaker wirelessly?

it is impossible to know if the gear/combos we have are the best or can be improved . there are much parameters involved in the SQ
there are real hardware gear  ,there are personal preferences , there are biological /hearing parameters
to find the best personal combination it is a long term work ,as for myself Ihad in the past the t1/600 ohm /v800 dac/hpav200 amp
this was a sucessfull conbination , for personal reasons I sold the equipment, now having new gear again looking for the best sound
my t5p II was connected to my mojo ; iwas sure the sound can not improved from here but I    was wrong I connected the output of the mojo
to an external amp (something i build similar to the vorzuge (also Ihad PII) again the sound was wider the bass more authority
again this was then of the way ?
again the sounds flowing beatifully to my ears but..... I just want to try only try the  amp  I was intrigued
A few years ago i build an ss amplifier  something that sounded in a mid way between  the exemplar spl phonitor and the Violectric HPv200
my amplifier was tested against the phonitor and my friend was really exicted about the results so ....
I connected my old SS amplifier and again my T5p sounded so good like never before every delicate sound was there the dynamics blown me tottaly could not take my phones off my head even for a second
So amplification (seriuos one) does the magic for t5p so my recommendation is just look and found a good (portable) amp to do
also the magic you are looking for
All my gear was tested -now (by the moment) I will not do  more changes for the moment just listen to my favorite music tracks

I am seeking a cable recommendation.

I am wanting something a bit longer for home use, straight, at least 1.5m and it's ok if it only has 1/4" plug on the amp side.

I just sold my LCD XC's, mostly because I found them uncomfortable but they also were really bad for my tinnitus.
My plan is to replace them with the T5P gen 2 and Focal Elear, so I'll have one headphone for closed and one for open.
I did own the T5P 1st gen briefly, and although i found them INCREDIBLY comfortable I could not stand the complete lack of bass and body of the sound.
They felt so thin, Im wondering if anyone else has tried both the LCD's and T5P gen 2 and how they compare?

I have the LCD2 and T5P gen 2.  I've found the T5P Gen 2 to be sensitive to my set-up.  With my Yulong A18/D18, the T5P's sounded very good with punchy mid bass but the LCD's sounded much more full and the bass was more visceral.  However, with my Burson Conductor/Virtuso, the T5P can match the LCD2 fullness and the T5P Gen 2 seem more lively and dynamic than the LCD2's.  My LCD's sounded very similar on both set ups.

The T5P is more comfortable but I found the Lohb comfort strap really helps out with the LCD2.

I'm also interested in trying the Focal Elear or the Kennerton Vali.

The review is in norwegian. But google chrome has an translation to english for web pages...

But here are the conclusion:
Code:
[color=rgb(33, 33, 33)] The best headphones Beyerdynamic crushes any portable headphones we 've heard[/color]
Conclusion

When one hears about portable headphones, you never think that they are big and impossible to put together. Or that they cost ten thousand crowns. But that is precisely what Beyerdynamic T5P G2 is and does. They are portable, simply because they are easily driven enough to use smart phone as a music player, and that the cable is short enough not to tamper in my pocket. And they are expensive because they are so extremly good, that you can almost forget these experiences music from a stereo to below
100 000 NOK (norwegian crowns), 12686.17 USD

It is difficult to compare with other headphones at same prices, since alternatives from Sennheiser Audeze and HiFiMan all need a proper amplifier to function. The nearest being Oppo PM-1 to 13,000 crowns, but even these are less airy top than T5P G2. Beyerdynamic's are simply a dream for all your music, they acknowledge with even more dynamics and resolution of high-definition music and a real amplifier. They are the closed headphones we've heard that the best of keeping up with the open Sennheiser HD 800 and Pioneer SE-Master1, but with the advantage of working fine with mobile and without the disadvantages of sound leakage. Simply amazing!
