New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Yes I do think so. They are good for fun listening.
Also, the more I'm using them, the more I'm inclined to think they really are a tad overpriced.
I can't come up with any immediate contender in the same price range, but based on other cans under 200 euros I've listened to in the past, I have a feeling there might be something else this good (or almost this good) costing less.
Do they have the same build quality and repairability as well?

I haven't listened to the new Shure 840A, which may compete (or maybe not) with the 700 PRO X for 100 euros less.
But Shure cans certainly don't have the same build quality unless you go to the SRH1540, and definitely not the same repairability.
In a few hours with the SRH840A I had the impression that they were less detailed than the DT700, but still a very good deal at their price point. Comfortable and lightweight, and yes: much more compact due to a folding mechanism and the oval ear cups.
Buildwise the DT700 seems mich more robust though.

Well, believe it or not, that is not an issue for me. I've had several headphones in the past, used them extensively, carried them about in backpacks and in stuffed-with-stuff bags without any cases, and I have never managed to damage or break them. I didn't walk all over them or throw them under a bus, true, but I alwasy ended up wanting to buy something newer before the old models broke up. Which they didn't.

Neither did I ever break a headphone unintentionally. Yet it’s reassuring to have easy access to spare parts, and it also speaks about how much a company cares about their products I guess.
But I think Shure makes very reliable products and I’ve never had any bad experience neither in-ears nor microphones. Their headphones will most probably follow the same quality guidelines.

lets do an ear pad swap... i was messing about today when i had the bright idea to check if the new DT700/900 pads fit on the older DT770/880/990/One etc.etc and yup they do. you have to change the fitting rings over though.

new pads on one of the cups of a pair of Custom One Pro (all other DT older rings are the same)

I myself made a small notch with micro saw and micro file on DT990's inner ring. it actually accepts new PRO X pad but it's tad loose and easily falls down.
I need to add one more trick on the inner ring to make PRO X pad stay firmly. I guess small pieces of doble-sided adhesive tape will do the job.

Wow, so I can go and buy leather pads meant for the 770/880/990 and stick it onto the mounting ring and use it with my 700's? Awesome!!

This doesn't mean 770/880/990 pads (EDT770 or EDT990) would fit 700/900 PRO X. that's another story.
I guess you need to prepare plastic ring from somewhere to attach EDT770/990 to 700/900 PRO X housing.

I have ATH-M50 and ordered 700Pro X.
My question.. if vocals will be clear or very muddy?..
ATH used for everything... music , games , ableton. Or I need look for other model?

Also I tested Miccus SR-71 (metal detector headphones) and there was too much bass.. I hope with 700prox such issue not exist.

the new 700/900 rings have a lip on the inner edge to let the lip on the ear pad mate together. you would need to cut the "disk pad" securing nibs off the 770/990 rings.

no the 770/880/990 etc.etc wont fit but i'm waiting to hear back from Polar Audio about some 1770/1990 inner rings which i'm pretty sure will fit all of the DT 1770/1990/770/880/990/T1 etc.etc pads onto the new 700/900. the 1770/1990 rings have a flange on them to secure the older style pads.

what i can tell peeps is that the 700 pads on the 900 cans makes the 900's sound full and warm but still retain the detail and vocals but they do add a bit of weight to the vocals. the bass is a lot more prominent. more hifi less studio sounding. tbh the standard 900's sound superb but still retain that S,SH,T,CH Squawk sound of old beyers and due to the voclas being more open the problem is more evident. i cut the 8k level down a few notches which has helped.
