Will do. I'm sitting on half a dozen measurements, but I promised Audeze that I would withhold them for a period of time until they sort out their issues with the LCD3. Soon.

It would be interesting to see some FR graphs of the late HD800 and LCD-3.... Purrin?

Did you give them some QC advice or something?

You're right :) To rejoin you have to change personality, IP adress and behaviour and we will never know if someone returned

Errr... He rejoined incognito as Googlie1 lol

Looking foreward to that :)

As a former HD800 (early unit) -owner and with a LCD-3 incoming I am kind of curious about this HD800-LCD-3 convergence. I found the HD800 painfully bright with anemic bass......

Haha! I miss his posts in some way. I know many who do not.

This convergence is indeed interesting. I for one am happy, as none of the fears regarding convergence toward neutrality, i.e. everything sounding the same, has come true. Both headphones are still retain their unique identities and maintain their strengths.

Now's the time to blackmail them for lifetime free shipping the next time your driver dies. Don't miss your chance!

So what exactly is the state of play with LCD-3s?

I was on the verge of ordering, until I started reading about "veiled" units, driver failures etc.

Are they on the LCD-3 Rev, 2?

Has Audeze cleaned up its act, or should I wait?

I do own LCD-2s. They are Rev. 2 because my first pair died. This was disappointing enough with a $1K phone, suffering the same with a $2K phone would be enraging.

Oh, and who makes the Stacker II amp?

Thanks, guys.

You might want to read the past 10 or so pages starting off with Olias' returned pair. Looks like the veil issue (not sure what the % of affected pairs were) has been rectified. I'm glad that others can finally hear what I (and others like Skylab and Jude) have been hearing since late last year. Unfortunate that the whole thing had to happen really.

Hey 45longcolt, here's my take:
I never had any of my Audezes fail (Rev1,Rev2, LCD3).
My LCD3s were not veiled, absolutely, but I sent them in for an RMA anyway just asking for a sound check (instant communication from Audeze) and they were returned almost immediately, free FedEx 2-day with
new drivers and (I think) new pads and they sound better.

So I would have no qualms getting a pair based on Quality Control or customer service, Audeze has been very very good to me, and I think you are sure to get a pair that has their current best sonics
(which are excellent, but not rolled off or with suppressed highs at all, in case by any chance that's what you were expecting). To my ears, they are more "conventional top-tier headphone" sounding than earlier Audezes.
See my post earlier today in  this thread about the latest HD800s vs. the latest LCD3s for the rest of my impressions on this if you are interested.

I called Audeze earlier and made an apt for Sat to get my drivers replaced at their Fountain Valley location.  They were really nice and said can bring music to try also.

I wonder if the 'vegan' sounds different than leather LCD3.

On a serious note I would definitely try the Vegan pads - IME using them with HE-6 you get much less resonance and a more open and effortless sound.  At $80 they are a seriously good value tweak to try and make a serious difference.
