i agree, people always say they are so expensive and that they are overpriced for the quality etc... but actually with the features and quality they have their pricepoint is often justified

I agree!
...I think most people compare against products from other vendors, where just some of the specs are identical (or close). Most of Apples computers are for professional use and should not be compared (price wise) against consumer products from other vendors.

I still think Macs are really expensive, but that obviously didn't hold me back from making the switch. It was well worth it.

Keep in mind that apple makes money more from hardware and not software! They have many more integrated software tools. For most other companies (IBM) make money on software and fixing hardware. Sony is expensive, but many don't whine even though they are paying for expensive windows products as well as premium hardware. The only gripe on apple pricing for me is the MacBook lacking a good graphics card for it's price.

There was a time when macs were continually behind the curve in both performance and price. Now, macs can go from market priced to overpriced depending on the timing of your purchase.

The thing to note is that computers (Core 2 Duo onwards) are so powerful now that unless you're doing specialist computing, does it really matter if you unwittingly buy outdated hardware, mac or pc?

Full disclosure, I have a mac, but Apple's design is so slick that I think it can transcend the fact that the hardware is not always top notch.
