NEW! AKG K812

There's really only one thing I hope for where these are concerned, and that is that they won't have that Harman 'plastic sound' of the K701 and the K550, but will be a return to that magical 'almost neutral with a bit of warmish colouration' signature of the K500/K501/K1000.

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Yeah! that would be tomorrow!

I actually just have gotten an invite as there is a free slot left. Any London Head-Fi going in London on Thursday afternoon?

AKG have been doing this since the Q701. The K601 is also a little warmer than the K701 but not the Q701.
Definitely warmer than the K501/K400 for sure.

Only time I got the plasticy sound from an AKG is with a K701 when used out of an old Yamaha receiver.
I was comparing it with an HD-600 at the time..

“The AKG K812’s are not only our newest reference headphones, but they are the very pinnacle of technological innovation to which we’ve aspired in our 65 years of innovation,” stated Kent Iverson, Director of Marketing and Product Development, AKG. “K812 is the result of an intensive 5-year research and development program to achieve, as near as possible, the perfect headphone. The level of technology and engineering invested in K812 exceeds the industry standard, resulting in truly the best sounding headphones AKG has ever released.”

Oh boy. This is getting me all excited.

Maybe just another more 'bass' version of K701, K702 (more bass), Q701 (more more bass), more more more bass...

Note that the statement comes from the director of marketing. To that end, I wonder whether "technological innovation to which we’ve aspired in our 65 years of innovation" is used as a noun phrase and so would just be saying that AKG achieved a goal they set themselves rather than that the result was the pinnacle of innovation.

Other than that, they seem to be able to boast very few actual facts about what they claim is game changer tech.
