I just got my modded/re-cabled 75s and I'm listening to them thru my 1st Gen. Shuffle (256 AAC VBR or 320 AAC) and I'm in Heaven! Can't believe how good everything sounds! Awesome bang-for-the-buck value!

Are they the KSC-75's??? I am listenin' to them right now with the LisaIII. Are they recabled by Alex from Apuresound? Mine are and the have a 75 Ohm resister installed. Which 75's are you talking about?

I bought these from Souperman, I believe they might have been re-cabled by Sherwood. They also have the Kramer mods. Still can't belive how good these sound out of my 1st Gen. Shuffle (songs at 256/320 Alac). I bought the Shuffle from Marroyo. This just became my favorite portable rig.

I did indeed spruce those 75s up a bit, and I'm awfully glad that they meet your needs so well, biged. The first gen shuffle is, incidentally, what I listen to my pair through as well. Really a fantastic combination for sound quality, durability, ease of use, and price. Buying all second hand you could probably get everything for $50-$75 shipped. What a steal.

I recabled my ksc75 with cat5,using all the wires in their original twisted-pair configuration, and it tightened up the bass and extended it and the highs arent as piercing either. I didnt do all the mods or use any expensive esoteric cables, but for the little bit i did, they sound great. If the cable wasnt so heavy and stiff,id use them out and about more. Maybe ill try another cable thats more flexible and may even sound better.

Don't worry about expensive esoteric cables. The 75 drivers aren't likely able to resolve whatever difference you would gain, and these are usually being driven by decent portable sources, not truly high end gear.

That being said, I exclusively use and love Mogami mini quad. It sounds excellent, looks sharp, and is light, flexible and cheap. 10 feet for headphones runs me about $5, which seems like a sound investment. You can pick the stuff up at hundreds of places online, or just find a specialist shop that sells equipment to recording studios in your area. I live in a town of 70,000 people (well, I DID live there before I moved to Turkey), and there was one there. Far more sensible than CAT5, IMHO.

I know what you mean! I just got back from my daily walk and the 75's are great cans!

My 1st gen shuffle went to ipod heaven, I now use a 2nd gen shuffle and I'm very shocked to fine it has better SQ than the 1st gen. tighter bass and better imaging.

Just about every review I find on the 2nd gen claims the first was better?
I find the 1st gen had a little more bass but it was a sloppy/lose bass compared to the 2nd gen.

I have some kramer headband modded ksc75's and just for fun popped some HD414 pads on them .... Works really well and feels like I'm wearing a normal Home can

Ok, cool. I think ill order some of that wire and try it.
I have friends in Turkiye also. Ankara, Instanbul, and another town there,i forget the name of it. Maybe starts with a C? They keep moving. So maybe you test your headphones with Mustafa Sandal and Tarkan ?

Anyway,
I think that wire is 4 conductor + shield, so id have to figure how id wire it.
I wonder how it sounds compared to the cat5 though. The cat5 really tightened up the bass and smoothed the highs and its more punchy. I really liked the change. Thanks for the tip.

I don't wire the shield, and I use red for right, blue for right, and black and clear for ground. Two grounds to the plug, and one to each ear. Nice and clean. I'm actually listening to the same rewire on a pair of Grado 125s right now, and it serves them extremely well. My preferred rewire for any bright cans. I did wire one with cat5 before, and while the sound difference was somewhat small, the aesthetic difference is astonishing. This cable just feels good and it's easy to work with. If I remember, it comes in red and black. I wire black for customers, but mine are red.

I'd love to meet Mustafa Sandal and Tarkan. My Turkish is coming along well, but I can always use more practice. If you talk to them, tell them they've got a new friend at Bilkent (my University).

I agree with this topic. I got the KSC75s this weekend, and just now I got my friends 1g shuffle (I sold my old one to my mother to get enough money for the new 3g nano). I like the 3g nano, but after listening through my mom's shuffle, the SQ change was amazing.

Now that I have my friends shuffle, I can finally go back to simple, screenless playing with amazing SQ. My 8GB 3g nano has just changed into my new movie/TV show player, and my 512 shuffle will once again be at the top of the list.

After modding the KSC75s, they do sound amazing, and I need to rewire mine sometime. I am only a high school student, but sadly it seems I am going the way of many here. My wallet is already feeling a little pain.

Well, time to go test my new shuffle (the songs just finished being added).

RMPNG, DIY is unbridled wallet joy. If you have some time, some skill and some business sense, you can find yourself plenty of work around these parts with rewires and mods. Do that rewire yourself -- you'll be glad you did.
