Have you listened to R70x too? Any thoughts on comparison?
I have not. The AD2000 were recommended to me by the author of the review I linked, many years ago when I was looking for a metal headphone.
At that point in time I had tried Beyer T1, Beyer DT770, HE500, LCD-2.1, Alessandro MS1. The AD2000 took the prize.

It has forward mids and lightning fast speed. The sound signature is dry. Asr, the author, preferred it on an original Gilmore Lite. I tried the GLM2 and found that amp to be too neutral for the AD2000. It really came into its own when I paired it up with an Audio GD R2R-11, which gave the AD2000s a dose of warmth it needed IMO.

The only other headphone that ive heard that does what the 2000s do are the AKG K240 sextett, which IMO are even better for metal than the Ad2000s are. I havent suggested it to you because of its quite intense amping requirements.

Very interesting, these sextetts have 6 passive radiators!?! https://www.head-fi.org/threads/what-exactly-is-the-akg-k240-sextett.276791/page-1

someone compared them to the k601 as well, but someone else dismissed this comparison

any thoughts?

Nah...the K601 is a classical monster, whereas the Sextett is a rock and metal master.

Apparently k340 also has several passive drivers (5)

AKG really did make a lot of headphones huh?
AKG is my 2nd fav headphone company, well at least they used to be.
The K340 is garbage. I have it and it has a design flaw which prevents the cups from angling inwards far enough to allow for a good seal. At the time the K340 was the TOTL but the Sextett blows it out of the water.

Great insights thanks!

Who’s your favorite headphone company? 2/3?

(would love to see a head-fi poll of everyone’s favorite company)
