I get what you are saying and I agree that most young people prefer personal audio over a stereo (they will rather buy a Bluetooth speaker) but I think that the age drastically increases after the 400/500 or even the 250 dollar mark in both headphones and IEMs.
Here are some stats. Easy to pull up since the headphone market is HUGE and projected to grow by around 7% .

How old are you btw if you don’t mind me asking?
Cheers man

Here’s the table showing the average headphone usage by age groups:

Age groupHeadphone usage
per week
Headphone usage
per month
Headphone usage
per year
19-29 years7.8 hours33.9 hours405.6 hours
30-49 years5.5 hours23.9 hours286 hours
50-79 years5.2 hours22.6 hours270.4 hours
Source: Canadian Health Measures Survey (assumed 4.345 weeks per month and 52 weeks per year)

According to the Canadian survey, young people use headphones more and considerably longer than older generations.

In the 19-29 age group, most use headphones or earphones from 6.2 hours to 9.3 hours per week with a 95% confidence interval. This means most people’s use of headphones will fall into this rage.

  • In a 2017 study, 88.6% of adolescents listened to headphones every day or at least a few times a week.

I'm 55 years old and try to use the most part of time, I sold my NDH30 because of doesn’t fell that performance better that my others headphones, recently I bought an Elear and M1570, that for me sound amazing, but as always the sound scale is not 2 or 3 x better than others, I don’t have money for the Utopias but if I was I will buy it. Last week I bought again another NDH30 pair second hand and waiting for arrives, why???, because I want to give a second opportunity and because after try a lot of mid priced headphone still don’t find another one who has the soundstage deep, separation and timbre that NDH30 has, it’s a different sounding headphone that has good and bad things , it’s not perfect for me but it’s different

I know, only to give my point of view, enjoy headphones , everyone has different tastes, some like to smoke, drink, car brands and there is market for all of them, in the case of headphones need to feel , hear and make “match”

Anyways. Back to the thread.

How are the NDH30 compared to a well EQed ( to get the 8500 peak out) Beyer DR1990 pro ?
I’ve tried the HD600 and they were good, but lacked body and dynamics compared to the 1990

Thanks !

Both are very different profiles, DT1990 bass is less than NDH30, mids are thin than NDH30 and treble is the “beyer” treble, soundstage and image is better on the NDH30, Beyer can sound good or “stable” with everything but NDH30 in some tracks sound bored and veiled like Sennheiser despite that treble has good resolution, I always eq all my headphones.

How old Are you?
I’m asking for your hearing. No offense.
I’m 55 so my hearing isn’t as good as it used to be.
I can still hear up to 16khz.

Do you have a pair of 1990?

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated!

Hi, I’m 55 also, I had a pair of DT1990 and sold them, I’m very tolerate to treble. For me
M1570 is a better headphone than DT1990. Even the Elear or Elex has more full body and dynamics

I wish there was some place to try them.
I’ll check them out if I can.
The NDH30 has captured my attention. Do you like those 3 headphones more than the NDH30?

Thanks

I’ll like very much all 3 headphones but this hobby is like drugs, I don’t consumes drugs but always want to try another new headphone trying to find the endgame. NDH30 is different t has many good things that I like but also has this so linear approach that in some trucks don’t get enjoy the music like Elear, Elex, M1570, or even DT1990 do, also Fidelio X2 it’s an excellent HP with a very enjoyable and easy to listen, I always back to them , all styles sound so fine

I'm going to be 70 and I use my headphones approximately 6 hours/day. Guess I'm an outlier! Thanks for posting.

Hd600 needs a tube amp or class A amps that are tube like in sound character to sound it's best. Using it with class A Rebel amp and getting great results especially on tracks that take advantage of it's characteristics.

Man,if I had a nickel for every time someone told me the HD600 needs some ‘ certain amp’ to sound good , I’d be a rich man.

No offense it wasn’t directed towards you of course
