Well, I'm doing a music podcast, and for the second episode I wanted to do an intro into hi-fi segment.
Nothing in depth, just mentions a few brands people might not be familiar with, and why I personally have devoted so much time and money in this hobby.
Guess I just want some of your input before tonight. What would you tell someone about to take the plunge?

Hi-fi is hard to explain to people not already into it.

People don't usually want to hear someone talk about their geeky hobbies. Instead, I keep talk to a minimum and give people a listen. They always shrink at the prices but everyone loves the sound.

You can't give people that experience through a podcast, unfortunately. I'd find a friend, co-worker, etc. who has never experienced hi-fi before and have them come over with some favorite music. Give them a listen to the good gear and then ask them some questions about the experience.

For starters:
Rediscovery of old music.
More emersive experience.
more visceral representation of instruments and voices...
