Well, i'm an idiot. Over the course of just half a year, i managed to lose 3 different pairs of earphones. One was the beloved MDREX75, which were just fantastic, but the cable stopped working anyways. Then i got the senn 500cx, which i am now worried to buy because of fakes, besides i thought that they didn't sound that great anyways. They were overly warm without being bassy or too clear. Then just a week ago i bought the MDR-ex57, which are SUPER clear and balanced, but i lost them a couple of days ago. Any suggestions for headphones that do justice more to treble and mids than bass? I listen to metal, a lot of rock, jazz, classical and electronica.

There's very few earphones at that price range that do not focus on bass. One is the Sound Magic PL30 which I really enjoyed when I had them and they do offer more of a balanced sound than a bass heavy one such as the one from a MDREX71 or CX500. They go for around $20 on focalprice.com but take around 2 weeks to arrive since it is shipping from Hong Kong or China.

The PL30 has a wider/airier soundstage than the M1 (and pretty much anything else in its price bracket). Everything else I feel the M1 does better.

The EP630 is muddy and composed 90% of bass. The Titans are harsh and very metallic-sounding. The FMJ are better (less metallic, less bassy) but still garbage.

Brainwavz M1 while they're still on sale at mp4nation. Shockingly good value for money.
