Hey Head-F1ers,

I think it is time to get more music. I need more metal bands, ones that are great, have excellent guitar riffs, nice melodies, good technical performance. Basically looking for good metal.

I don't care about the genre if the band is good. Just to let you know these are some of the bands I have been listening to:

Wintersun, Omnium Gatherum, Archeon, Arsis, Cavalera Conspiracy, Ensiferum, Illnath, Imperanon, Mastodon, Mors Principium Est, Light This City, ...

As well as the typical, Iron Maiden, Dark Tranquility, Yngwie Maasltem, Liquid Tension Experiment.

So any other good bands are welcome.

Machine Head - Burn My Eyes, The Blackening, Through the Ashes of Empires

Amon Amarth - Once Sent From The Golden Hall, With Oden On Our Side, Twilight Of The Thunder God

Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, Spiritual Black Dimensions

Vader - XXV

Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence, Tortured Existence

I'm assuming you know about metallica, megadeth, slayer, etc.

You definitely should get Mercenary first. 11 Dreams is really a jaw dropping good album, I am sure you will love it.

This is harder than I though, to pick up albums that has both good and catchy riffs and/or melodies, easier to listen stuff. Lets see...

Thrash metal

Kreator - Coma Of Souls
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic Of Violence
Protector - A Shedding Of Skin
Exhorder - Slaughter In The Vatican
Sepultura - Arise

Power metal

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
Kiuas - Spirit Of Ukko
Kiuas - Reformation
Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
Persuader - When Eden Burns
Dark Moor - Beyond The Sea
Eidolon - Apostles Of Defiance

Melodic deathmetal and similar

Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Amon Amarth - Versus The World
Amon Amarth - Once Sent From the Golden Hall
(okey, get the whole Amon Amarth discography, easier that way...

*edit* Oh seems like you are familiar with them already. Ignore)
Ensiferum - Ensiferum
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul (if you like In Flames, get this album ASAP)

Death metal

Solstice - Solstice
Decapitated - Nihility
Slugathor - Circle Of Death
Death - Human
Death - Leprosy
Cannibal Corpse - Wretched Spawn
Trauma - Imperfect Like God

Black Metal. I TRIED to leave the most obscure stuff out and concentrate on ones with clear riffs instead of harmonics.

Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Keep Of Kalessin - Armada
1349 - Hellfire
Gehenna - WW
Old Mans Child - In Defiance Of Existence

*edit* added decapitated

Oh, I forgot Hypocrisy completely. I should have recommended Hypocrisys self-titled above. Atleast I think that album is good though it isnt very widely liked.

Maza, thnks for the list, will definitely check that list. However I am not looking for something easy to listen to. I prefer bands that you listen to them and say "ok", but the more you listen to them the more they grow in you.

For example Job For A Cowboy or Lamb Of God were one of those bands at first I didn't like but over time I got to appreciate their pros and find their cons.

Ensiferum also had too much folk rhythms for me, but their riffs and good melodies got me into listening to them.

I am just looking for bands which I will get the CD and say this was money well spent. Not something to keep stacked somewhere around the house.

Thanks a lot for everyone who has posted bands, will definitely have a look at all of them.

These HF-2 won't stay unused

I didnt mean watered down when I said easy to listen, I was more like talking about leaving the obscure stuff that might leave unprepared and unexpecting listener go "eh?" when first hearing it, especially because Im not sure what are your experiences with black and deathmetal overall.

Well, as I said as far as its good that is ok with me. I have heard some grind stuff and other undefined genres, some of them have good stuff in them, others I think they are just plain sh***.

Anyways will be checking them all, there's loads of them now for me to look. Will be reporting which ones I like.

Thanks again.
