Hello Head-Fi'ers. Just obtained an AKG Sextett off Ebay but the seller did not state which era of production it's from.

The colour of the 6 circular radiators suggest it's LP. Do LPs come with the headband with holes though? Thanks

The headband can be anything.

I suspect the only reliable way to tell EP/MP and LP apart is to measure the frequency response. EP/MP should be using free field equalization while the LP quite possibly diffuse field.

Other than that, the LP should have a more matte driver as per the image there: http://www.head-fi.org/t/202122/the-headphone-driver-pics-thread/60#post_3883163. Somewhat in support of the theory that the LP came with matte drivers is that the K 241 - a Sextett follow-up from the late '70s - did so as well (http://www.head-fi.org/t/202122/the-headphone-driver-pics-thread/225#post_8608172 and http://www.head-fi.org/t/202122/the-headphone-driver-pics-thread/255#post_8752647).

Or you could just cut corners and assume an LP based on the white diaphragms.
