The connection on one side of my Grados is bad so I thought I would fix it.
I disconnected the wires without keeping track of what went where.
I'm now left with the two cups without + or - indicators and wires with non-typical lead colors.

I emailed Grado hoping for some help but thought I would bump this for others to see.

Just use a multimeter to run a current through one pole on the headphone pole and test each wire individually to determine which pole is which side. Can't tell you which pole is the left or right side on the headphone plug, though, someone else might be able to help you there.

Just guessing "blue"=grounds, white & red = signals.
you could use the wire to tap on the contacts while playing to hear if any sound is coming out of the phones before you solder. Test it not at high volume.

Headphone jacks are tip = left, middle section = right, then ground at the base. Hope that helps.

Is there any way to tell the polarity on the drivers?... IE which solder pad is + and which is -?

Pretty much also headphones I have modded/come across have the same setup. When the solder pads are looking away from you. The left pad is + and the right pad is -. As for your headphones I attached a picture to make it east for you. I know all Grado's are the same for sure and my HF-1 are open right now so I double checked and it was correct.

Many companies use white for left and red for right... Grado isn't one of them.

I'm all wired up and back in business, without the bad connection.

I hooked everything back up as shown in [AK]Zip's picture.

I'm in a money pickle saving for my wedding so this helps me more than you know.
