I've lurked here long enough, finally went ahead and registered today.

Whats important to her,

1. Sound Isolation
2. Sound Quality
3. Construction

I've looked into active nc and noise isolation, thinking of going the isolation route, aka closed. Any recommendations in the $100-$200 range? She doesn't need the best-of-the-best just simply something she can wear while studying and not hear her roommates music or the traffic outside

Thanks in advance

If your budget is that high, get her Ultrasones or Beyerdynamics.  How portable does she require them to be?

If all she wants is to be able to study and not hear outside noises, then S700 would be a very good choice.

Aside from the poor soundstage and okay sound quality, it provides one of the best comfort and isolation you can find for anything under the $150 range.

Plus they cost less than $30 shipped, you could spend the rest of the money to buy her something that sounds better without isolation as a premise.

Why not a Beyerdynamic DT770 or an Audio-Technica M50? They're both really good headphones.
I wouldn't recommend an active NC headphone, they suck mucho (I have a 400$ Sony at work and it sucks, I use the M50 in stead)

i would recommend the sennheiser hd 280 pro. they isolate noise, have crystal clear sound quality, and are built very strong. they retail for under $100 and are great headphones. also they do not really require an amp since they can be powered with even an ipod.
