First post here, I'm looking to get a good can which can be used with/out amp. I mostly listen to pop/rock, not really a bass heavy guy. Thanks for help.

HE-400 if you don't mind some bright highs. I had to sell mind since I don't really like brightness, but they're great in terms of bass quality, and clarity.

He 400 still perform better with an amp tho. X1 can live without an amp

That is very true. X1s definitely don't rely on amp anywhere near as much.
