Hey guys. Im looking to get a dac for my maudio bx5 d2. Im looking to spend 150 or less. I want good sound quality. I had an alesis io2 that went out. Im looking for a step up. I do not plan to record. Just listen. Music and games and movies. Im looking at the focusrite scarlet 2i2 . but im also looking at the schiit modi2. but it has no volume control and i heard that the connections will have some feedback if i did use modi due to being unbalanced sorry im not to familiar with these things. I want to know howni can get a volume control if i went that route. Also other options for good sound quality.

Hifimediy USB DAC, $57+ shipping ($8?)

I'm guessing this USB DAC comes with a better DAC chip, then the 2i2

Hosa CMP-153 cable ($3.79) to connect the USB DAC to the BX5

This setup will use an un-balanced connection.

A Modi would work fine since the BX5 does accept unbalanced inputs, although definitely doesn't take care of your volume control issue. Then you'd have to add a device on with that. For the money, the Audioengine D1 would give you the pre-outs on the back to connect your speakers and control their volume, as well as a headphone jack.
