I need a good pair of closed headphones for under $150 including shipping, used or new as long as they're in good condition. My setup is the following: Chaintech AV-710 flashed to Prodigy--> Onkyo HT-R410 via optical out -->?
I need a decent amount of isolation, at least enough to block out loud computer noise.

So far I am considering AKG 271S, Beyer DT-250-250 or 80, ATH-A500, and Senn. 280 Pro. The Beyer. DT531's are probably close to what I want soundwise.

I will be using these headphones to listen to music (alternative rock, classic rock, as well as Enya, also various other genres) and occasionally for movies.

The Senn HD497's were very clear; but, hurt my ears after a couple of hours even at moderate volumes and were far too boring for movies. Also, they sounded incredible with the optical connection; however, they were very muddy out of the Chaintech and out of the HT Receiver's headphone jack with analog connection.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

A little math for you:
"Exciting" + "Closed" = "Sennheiser HD25-1"

"exciting" + "closed" equals "CD3000" I think

The CD3000 is a very open set of phones, and requires a really good source which in turn requires more money than I am looking to spend.

The Sen HD-25 sells over here for $499 AUS (prob about $325 US)... where-as all the other headphone prices are very simular to yours... so until now i had thought the HD-25 1 had been a different headphone... oh well

Yeah ive seen the 25-1 pricced crazy and ive seen it priced average. Ive seen it up to about $300. myself but they got a deal on em a few weeks ago for $120. I wonder how many people got em for that price?

I wanted to try a pair but i like the style that fir over the ear. A relaxed fit on my ears so i can put alot of hours on them with little fatigue.

Jonathan, then you'd best consider the DT250/250, as it sounds very similar. However, midrange is a little more pronounced, which doesn't harm imo - but it's also a tad nasal in direct comparision, probably due to the closed construction.

Greetings from Hannover!
