So right now my foray into Hi-Fi is going pretty well. I've got AKG K701s with a LD I+ hybrid on the way (tube rolling is in my future).

However, I'm using my aluminum MacBook as a source and I have a feeling it's not going to cut it.

I'm looking for a DAC. I do have optical out so that's definitely an option (in fact, it is preferred as I only have 2 USB ports).

Right now all I can really find in this price range is the Fubar II (which is USB) and the Zero DAC/Amp (which is optical!).

I'm wondering though. If I go with the Zero, how do I bypass its internal amplifier?

Is it as simple as having optical in from the MacBook and then using an RCA cable to connect the Zero to my LD?

the Zero has RCA outputs for just using the DAC or 1/4 jack for headphone output. I personally disliked it, it was too forward, and lacked depth in the lows.

Haha well sorry for not waiting for more advice but I picked up a slightly used silver Fubar II from a forum member for $108 shipped.

You might want to consider the Valab Dac, it has USB, Coax and Toslink, $180.00 shipped from Taiwan.
