I'm considering scratch building a set of cans for fun, but I really don't want to sink a massive amount of money into it. I have everything completely covered besides the drivers themselves... so basically I need some donor-phones. I would go with the Fostex ortho's, but that's pretty much already been done. Superluxes? Other suggestions?

If you really want to test your chops, buy a cheap headphone at Walmart and practice on that.  When you get the results you're looking for - with junk - you can invest more money in better drivers.  Just a thought.
