Just got these a few hours ago, listed as “Newest version of HD 600s, purchased 11 months ago." I paid $241 with shipping.
 
There is wear on the left side where the HD 600 is nearly rubbed off and looks to have the OLD drivers. See pictures.
 
Wanted to ask for the forums opinion, before contacting the seller. What would you do?

They sound good. I guess tehy sound like HD 600s. Very smooth and relaxed, a but of mid bass boost with little bass extension, which is there biggest draw back.
 
I ended up keeping them, as there are a classic and sound pretty good, except for the lack of sub bass. Oh and HD 600 (and HD 598) are so light and comfortable, wish more headphones had the oval earcup design of the HD line.

I wasn't too happy, but still kept it. Just didn't want to deal with returning and finding another pair to bid on.

I wouldn't worry about it. Supposedly there were changes with the HD650s, with some versions sounding different, but given that the pads become soft over time, changing the distance of the driver from one's ears, it all could have been that and not anything else.
