Need a new MP3 player...

Sorry I haven't been following the entire thread but have you ruled out the Rio Carbon already?

amazon.com has the Rio Carbon for $175 - $20 mail in rebate = $155

compuplus.com has it for $157 - $20 mail in rebate + $15 shipping & handling = $152

I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find $5.

Have already considered it; here's the current situation:

What alternative do I have if I want to be able to listen to VBRs and FLAC and still want to have room for all of my mp3s? Now I'm looking for something that is less than $150 and can be anything, whether it be a HDD-based mp3 player, flash mp3 player, or even an mp3 cd player or something. I'm currently thinking about getting an mp3 cd player, but I don't think there are any that support VBR and FLAC, am I correct? Is there any sort of cd player that'll let me play DVD mp3 discs? What should I do?

Do you know what would be included with that reconditioned model? Would I still get all the same stuff that I would get if it was new? I must admit that it is still kind of expensive. My under $150 I was actually thinking that what I'd want would cost between $70-135. Any other recommendations? Is there really no mp3 cd player that supports DVD-Rs?

I think factory refurbs usually include all the neccessary stuff like a dock, install CD, etc but sometimes they dont have the little goodies like pouches, extra batteries, and all that other good stuff.

Azure, most DVD mp3 players are 1. pretty expensive and 2. pretty damn rare. Not to mention that navigating 4.7gb's on a tiny monochrome screen will be a major pain in the ass. I think you are asking a lot for something that is going to cost (preferably) 70-135 dollars. Just having a quality 4gb of capacity should easily cost you $150. I sympathise that your budget is stretched thin but you really wont get much of an HD (or other high capacity DAP) player for that kind of price. Count your blessings that you can get the karma for 152 from a very reliable dealer. I dont know how you feel about buying used but you should check out the For sale forums here on Head-fi and see if there is anyone selling something that you like.

PS: I really wasnt joking about you mowing the lawn. Do what you need to do to get the money, set up a lemonade stand, have a garage sale, babysit, making 50 bucks shouldnt be that hard.

Hee hee, as much as this guy is irritating - you gotta admire his persistance, like a WHOLE year!

One thing I will say is you really do get what you pay for. When I was his age (?) I always wanted the best bargan for under $200 bucks too. But then I ended up with junk and always had to upgrade.

This guy really takes me back to the good ol' days.

Thanks Azure.

Hi Azure,

i looked at your initial demands dor an mp3player you would buy and came to the conclusion that an Iaudio Flash player would suit you best.
Theres is the Iaudio U2 ( a little bit older but a great player ) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846..
Especially the price is really great.
And there is the iaudio 5: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846.
Both are flash players what means that they are shockresistant and nearly(!) undestroyable. Furthermore the buildquality of Iaudio players is really great so you don't have to worry too much.
FLAC support is not available yet but the iaudio hdd players already have it and the company releases firmware quite often ... so who knows what will come ? (ogg, mp3 and wma(drm) are already supported)
Look at the sites and if your interested you can find further information on http://www.iaudiophile.net/news.php . Look in the forum if you have any questions ( http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums ).
These players also don't have problems driving phones like the A500s but if you doubt it you can ask somebody from the forum *g*

greetz Tolo who hopes that he could help you!

Agree.

The only CD player that also plays DVD-Rs that I am aware of is the Sony forgot model #) and that one will run you close to or over $200 and only has a battery life of a few hours. But it has been out of production for some time already so it'll be pretty hard to hunt down. The only other company that might have a DVD-R player I can think of is iRiver, but I'm not sure.

Sorry to tell you but you are asking A LOT for a very little amount of money. To get a harddrive player that plays FLAC is pretty hard to find for $150 already, but 75-135 is just about impossible... unless it is used.

But since you have already waited so long (has it been a year already

) why not wait a just a little longer and come up with that $50.

Unfortunately that refurbished Rio Karma is gone, so now I don't know what to do. Well, here's what I plan on getting:
IIDX 9th Style - $86.10 (After shipping)

Headphones - $116.50 (After shipping)

Rio Karma - $209.88 (After Shipping)
Rj-Tech Portable DVD/MP3 player - $77.18 (After Shipping)

DS - $150
Super Mario 64 DS - $30

How much I currently have: $230
How much I should have when I'm going to buy: $540 if I get lucky and really count every penny

So, if $540 would be pushing, I doubt I'd be able to get the $590 to get the new Karma. This is why the Rj-Tech player is so appealing, only $77. Any advice on what I should do (If only that refurbished Karma was still on Amazon...)?

EDIT: Doesn't the Karma have HDD problems (Doesn't the HDD tend to crap out?)?

How's the MuVo2? Good headphone amp? Easy to use/navigate through songs? Also, doesn't the Karma have a lot of HDD problems?

I'm aware of that compuplus website and I hear that they aren't too good, so I don't think I'm going to order from there.

I was sceptical of them too, then I found out i was mixing them up with some other crappy site. I've heard nothing but good things about them. The only things that i dont like about them is that they dont have that big of a selection, and their shipping is rediculously expensive.
