That 273 is pretty old, right now I have around ~600 megs, and then I have like 500 more megs on my computer, and then I'm going to be buying some soundtracks which will put me to at least 2 gigs. I'm interested in the Karma because it has tons of space, so I never need to worry about running out, and it is less than $200 too (I was originally planning on getting the Zen Micro, but it costs too much).

Hmm...it looks like I won't have enough cash to get the mp3 player. Now I don't know what to do. Right now I have like 600 megs of music and I plan on ripping a good 100 more tracks in FLAC, which should get it past a gig, right? What alternative do I have if I want to be able to listen to VBRs and FLAC and still want to have room for all of my mp3s? Now I'm looking for something that is less than $150 and can be anything, whether it be a HDD-based mp3 player, flash mp3 player, or even an mp3 cd player or something. I'm currently thinking about getting an mp3 cd player, but I don't think there are any that support VBR and FLAC, am I correct? Is there any sort of cd player that'll let me play DVD mp3 discs? What should I do?

You are correct in your assumption that I have yet to buy them. I've already decided that the A500s are the headphones for me, now I just need to work out a few more things, like finding a device to use to play my music with the A500s as my previous post asked, and I should be set. And no, it hasn't been over a year yet. We still have a good month left till it's been a year.

Damn... my point has been completely deconstructed. Well, you might want to put your other thread to bed by just stating that you ARE in fact going to get the A500's. I have a feeling its going to be another year at least for this thread

All I said was that the A500s are the headphones I want, not that I am going to get them for 100% sure. I haven't made that decision yet as there are still a few problems left to be worked out (Like this source problem and my idea that I thought of in the other thread).

What about this device:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16882107024
Would it be able to play VBRs and FLAC? Would it be able to power my A500s and deliver good sound quality (To someone who is getting their first audiophile headphones)?

I almost had some hope for you and your headphones...

My micro (5-7mW) can drive my HD-280's (spl of 102dB at 64ohms) just fine. There fore just about any DAP you buy will be able to drive the A500's (spl of 100dB at 64ohms).

The thing is, this isn't a micro or any other well-known DAP. It's a cheap portable dvd player made by Rj-Tech, so it could probably deliver really crappy sound quality. Playing mp3s isn't even its primary function.

So dont bother with it then. It didnt get any rave reviews at newegg so it probably isnt that great. If your going to be buying a DAP thats under 200 then why are you even considering some no name brand DVD player that could be a real peice of ****

Disregard the ending.

Just take things one step at a time when deciding what player you want, first start out general. Do you want a flash based player or a HD based player. If you want a HD based, do you want a microHD based or just the standard? And so on and so on.

Miss this post? My budget is now lower so all those perfect ones like the Karma and the Zen Micro are off the list. Which is why this I am considering this no name brand DVD player. It's the size of a cd player and plays MP3s, so I could just burn DVD-Rs full of my mp3s and have a 4.7gb mp3 player right there. Only problem is that I don't know if it supports FLAC/VBR and I don't know if sound quality would be an issue with the A500s.

I'm basically just in need of a non-flash mp3 player that can hold at least 4 gigs, supports VBR (Maybe FLAC too), and delivers good sound for the A500s. It can be anything, mp3 cd player-type (Like that dvd player that I found), HDD-based player, whatever. Just can't be too big (Not looking anything bigger than your average cd player). And lastly, the whole thing has to be under $150.

Its pretty doubtful that it supports FLAC (its not on the list of supported codecs) and I think any player that is capable of playing MP3's is capable of VBR. Dont bother with this DVD/MP3 player, it will just feel like your settling for a sub par player.

It just seems like your short money, just mow the lawn a few times (or whatever) and earn back the 50 bucks. After you have the cash just buy whatever you were going to buy before your budget got cut.

I'm short ~$150-200. I ruled out some soundtracks to make more room for the DAP, in the end I found out that I would be left with buying one that could me no more than $150.

So, is this Rj-Tech one isn't worth it, is there any other name brand mp3 cd player that supports playing DVD-Rs?
