cheap eBay LOD cable + fiio E5?

would those two purchases be the next logical step for a guy on a tight budget? i'm hoping to spend less than $100 on an amp/LOD. but i'm open to any suggestions.

That's probably a good step up but it would depend if you mind the extra bulk. But for less than 100, I think it would be a good upgrade. I have the E5 and its a pretty good amp, especially for its size and price. What ebay LOD were you looking at?

LOD = line-out-dock

as for which one i'm looking at, i'm not sure yet. i just learned about LODs within the last 30 minutes, after reading that nano headphone jacks were no good. i'm really pretty new to this stuff.

but are there any amps that come equipped with an LOD cable? it must be kind of a pain to lug around 3 different devices (source/lod/amp) just to listen to music on the way to work.

How about a Headroom Total AirHead and Ram Din LOD. Cost will be about $130
