fitz: sure its not just two letters following the mighty 240?

i think theres some kind of AT DJ-can with hinges like that and a camouflage finish , although i think it looks alot more like noise and rahter high grain on that photo

Yes I'm sure. I own three of the four K270 versions, and that is obviously a K270 Studio in the photo you posted.

i know you know your cans ,just thought you might not have looked long enough
indeed it was me who didn't look closely of course its a 270S
cup has different form and it lacks the "Studio Monitor" labeling and the distinct big writing K 240 DF

This looks like it was made by the same company that made the original sporscaster headset. It was British, so it might be right. Can't remember the company's name, but further research will reveal, I think.

Edit: some variant of Amplivox/Astrolite.

Do IEMs count in this game? I don't know much about IEMs so these may be easy to identify, but I've always been curious what porcupine tree uses when they perform live.
