NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

To those who have listened to both this, and the Oppo PM3 how does the soundstage compare? I recently got a pair of PM3s and I think they're nearly perfect, except for the small soundstage. I was wondering how the HP50s compared since they have similarish signatures.

Neither has a particularly wide soundstage to my ears but I found the hp50 seemed to have more depth to its presentation.

I actually found the HP50s' soundstage surprisingly good for a closed pair.

Yeh as far as closed back headphones go the hp50 soundstage is good, with the right tracks the roomfeel feature works amazingly well and is quite impressive. I'd say its soundstage is definitely wider than the pm-3 and momentum. I also thought its tonality was more realistic, the momentum sounds a bit off somehow and the pm-3 a bit metallic.

I've ordered a pair of the TH-X00s and have owned these for about a year now, maybe will post some noob impressions when they come in.
On the other hand, does anyone have some good reference music for testing out soundstage?

I also like porcupine tree inabstentia trains song for soundstage.

Ya, horikawa is pretty awesome. What that guys does with a ping ping ball sound is Genius.

You can get earpads for the HP50 directly from an NAD distributor. Email Louise Hinkson at LHinkson@lenbrook.com. I emailed her at the beginning of the year to find out if they have replacement pads for HP50 and she told me that they are in stock and that I can email her directly to arrange payment. They are 29.36 CAD each, plus tax and delivery - well, at least that was the price back then, according to the lady. Not sure if they are in stock now. Also, don't know if they ship internationally.

~30 CAD per earpad? So ~60 CAD for a pair? That's pretty expensive D:

I agree, hp50 has great soundstage for a closed can. Much better than a congested momentum, but lesser than a diffused mdr-1r

Yeah, I've been curious about these since Tyll @ innerfidelity posted his glowing review of these two years ago. I ultimately got a Momentum 1.0 (for $100 cheaper), which I liked, except for its poor imaging and soundstage.

For closed headphones under $300, is anything else comparable? I hear the new Momentum 2.0 is also congested, the Oppo is great (except for its soundstage), the Sony MDR-1A lacks clarity and the Audio Technica MSR7 has a small soundstage and is a little bright.

I just want the Fidelio X2 as a closed can. Is that too much to ask? Lol.

For a closed back portable I've not found anything in its price range that can beat the sound of the hp50. The akg k267 was comparable but like the hp50 is let down by bad comfort. The new Sony mdr-100ap has impressed me a lot, similar sound to the 1a with a more controlled bass and better clarity and it's very comfortable as well. The Yamaha mt220 is on par sound wise although not quite as portable and the coiled cable can be a bit annoying.

I'm intrigued by these Sonys, but that model number is showing an iem in searches. Can you kindly confirm the model number of that Sony?

Thanks!

Surprised about the comfort statement. My head is normal size and I find them very comfortable for hours at a time.
