Oh and as far as recommendations go if you're looking at SS then I will have a balanced beta22 for sale soon that will give you the very transparent sound (possibly the most transparent?) and drive any pair of headphones you could get and still leave you with the majority of $1000 to buy some headphones.... may I suggest the Denon AH-D5000's with the markl mod (done by you or by him).

I was in your shoes last year and have been very happy with my amp. I would go used though. You can get a buttload of amp for two big. Here is one hellofa buy and you could get some other hps.

Does the entire amount have to be spent on an amp? You could pick up another pair of headphones, a used Singlepower and a turntable for that much. I'd suggest considering all your options for a bit before you buy anything.

Don't limit yourself to an amp. It is possible that you could get better performance from a few pieces of gear than just an amp.

Also, tubes play nicely with the blues. I'd look for an amp that glows.
