My Thoughts Of the New Sony Walkman A865

I am getting bored with my ie8s after 2 and a half years so thought I'd try some BA iems.

I wanted something with controls that would work with my iPod. Not sure what to make of these so far - I need to give them a long listen to.

It's not just drums that the A865 does better than the Clip+, bass guitars also have better definition, especially noticed on "slap n finger". I also prefer the mids of the A865. The Sony sounds more like Hi-Fi, whereas the Clip+ sounds just like a PMP.

One thing I have noticed is that the X10i don't play particularly well with my A865..there is a slight hiss and harshness there, I'm not sure if its because they're BA iems - haven't played around with EQ much. No such problems with my other iems.

They do go very well, though, with my iPods - laid back and fun to listen to. I need to spend more time with them.

I think that's probably a good deal if someone wants just the 8Gb model...

I paid £100 for the A865, and that was after I said I was never going to buy another DAP

That's what I paid at a shop...the guy does try to match online prices though.

I do love the A865 - wish that I had the 64Gb model, just so that I could have the same music on it as my iPod Touch.

How much does the 64GB model cost over there in the UK, anyways?

Well, originally the 64Gb model was £299 but it has been down to £199 which I think is a lot more reasonable.

The A865 I have was £149 but down to £100 or £99 lately.

I traded a tablet in a nice case that I just wasn't ever using for my A867 (which isn't sold here) , and I have no regrets. In fact, I can honestly say that for the first time in a long time, I have no plans on any gear swaps or additions to the collection.....I'm quite content with what I have. Of course, a certain friend of mine here in the USA rotates his gear quite often, so if he offers a proposition I'll at least listen to what he has to say....but I'm not actively searching out anything new.

What you got was a good deal.. I don't get the excitement over various Android pmps (Sony, Samsung or Cowon) when they cost as much as they do and probably aren't a significant upgrade over what came before - or even a cell phone.

What I have will do me fine also..although I may be tempted to upgrade my ie8s to something else lol..

Yeah, my Motorola Android phone and my Samsung Android PMP probably sound roughly equal to each other, if I was to really compare them critically.....and asides from the aversion to gapless playback, I'd say the Sony does have a more pleasing sound than either of them. The Samsung's battery life is incredibly longer than that of everything else in my collection though.....lol.
