Hello all i've been searching and searching for one earphone that will suit my preferences (Analytical with some bass quality wise & quantity).

I've read about all the Etymotics, all the Ultimate Ears (the top model out of my price range by the way), and Klipsch Image S4 which got a rare Outstanding label from cnet & rated very highly on trustedreviews among other reviewers online & on this forum although all these iems had positive & negatives to them.

I finally took a look at myself & the music I was listening to & what I want out of an earphone. I want to hear details but at the same time i want some bass with quality & quantity.

I listen to alot of pop, rock, disco, & italo disco. That means alot of bass coming from these songs.

So after searching on this forum & others & reading reviews I finally settled on the Phonak Audeo Perfect Bass Earphone with green filters.

But my question is this is the Phonaks are harder to drive than most single-armature IEM out of a portable music player than other iems? Especially with the perfect bass green filter???

Will this be a problem? I'm using a Cowon D2+.

Does it need an amp to hit maximum potential?

I don't want to purchase & carry around an amp.
Thank You All.

In my experience an amp is useless with the PFEs. I couldn't notice any difference between my unamped Sansa Clip and my Vaio Pocket + LOD + Headsix. I think it's ridiculous to blow money in portable amps while you could get a pair of SM3s for the price of the PFEs + the portable amp.
In terms of volume the PFEs with green filters are fairly efficient, even out of the Sansa.

The S9, somewhat like that D2+ are the same, it should and will push the Phonaks no problem. Bass quality is something the Phonak have, bass quantity is average, but you get nice thump/impact as well as bass that goes deep. Not sure with the green filters of the perfect bass model, (Which I will be getting, filters that is)

But grey wise the bass is how I described, and with blacks you get more but you might lose the analytical signature your looking for. You did state (Analytical with some bass quality wise & quantity). Only bad thing about that is that's hard to pinpoint with the various filter options. But this describes the Phonak's perfectly, except the quantity part, which would all be up to peoples ears. Regardless the Phonak sound like what your looking for, just curious about your bass preference.

I think the black filter will be fine with his Cowon as far as staying analytical. Not sure about the green though. No experience with them.

IMO, the perfect bass plus the filter pack for the other filters is the way to go. The all black looks much nicer, IMO.

The Perfect Bass is harder to drive but that might be good for the Cowon bass roll-off. I did not have a Cowon at the same time as the PFE so it is an assumption and not the actual experience.

Try the green filters out with the silicone tips and some BBE settings and see how it goes. You should have no problem with the D2+ power-wise. You just might need some treble EQ since the filters are getting more bass quantity by reducing treble. No real issue with the Cowons plentiful sound settings. You may not find the need for the other filters at all.

Better choice than the Ety since they are shallow insert phones and perform more like the reviews say. The MC5 is all over the place for people. The Phonak can be worn both ways more easily which is good for microphonics and bone conduction. The Phonak isolate well so there will be some microphonics and bone conduction.

I finally got the Phonak Audeo Perfect Bass. I got them 2 weeks ago for my birthday & i'm very happy with the sound quality. It was exactly what i was looking for: very good sound quality across the spectrum but with some extra bass, and extremely light & comfortable you don't even know you have them on.

The all black color looks cool too.
