I was chatting on another forum about the audio Journey we go on when at first afflicted with this wonderful hobby. I thought it might be interesting to see if we can show a journey in one picture, see how different or similar we are here is my one:

Maybe think about adding a timeline of the journey and what each device is? I can figure out what some are but not all of them. Now I do recognize that one on the far right since I have one of its twins :ksc75smile::ksc75smile:! Oh - I think the far left as well - Cowon J3 (which I have as well)?

Nice thread...

Cheers,
Tim

Very nice, very nice indeed!

My portable history starts back in the early 1970's when I had one of those portable rectangular mono cassette recorder/players (I wanna say it was Radio Shack but not sure on that) and would record things off the TV, radio, or maybe even from speakers on my record player via a microphone. I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time but probably how I got my start in music and eventually hifi audio. I remember pouring over catalogs with my dad in the 1976 - 1977 timeframe and he put together about 5 different systems over that time, buying and selling them to friends so he could try something different, etc.

Fast forward to my more modern foray into portable hifi and that was around 1983 while I was in college and ended up saving enough money to buy my first "nice" device - the Akai PM-R1. Still have it to this day! After college I got into car audio and lost interest in/did not use portable gear until around early 2001.

So here is my history from that point on:
Akai PM-R1 Summer (?) 1983
Sharp MD-MT877 Early 2001
Zune HD June 2011
Cowon J3 Dec 2011
iBasso DX50 Sept 2013
iBasso DX90 July 2014
Cowon Plenue P1 Jan 2016
iBasso DX220 May 2019

Headphones and IEMs (not listing earphones that came with various devices):
Azden DM-90 1985ish
Sony MDR-V300 2001ish
Sennheiser CX 475 June 2011
Vsonic GR99 Dec 2012
Yamaha EPH-100 May 2014
Sony MDR-EX650 T Jan 2015
NarMoo S1 Jan 2015
Alpha & Delta AD01 Nov 2015

And here is the family photo

Anyways, thank you for starting this - let's see what other gems folks dig up out of their archives to share with everyone!

Cheers,
Tim

Nice, brought back memories for me too, I forgot I had a Sony MZ30 Minidisk player too.

Love the J3, I used to use it a lot for audio books too :) I also had the Sony MDR-V300, they fell to bits after constant use.

Funny how we ended up in the same place today :).

Cheers

I bought my J3 because of the BT connection capability and used it for several years in the Mazda 3 I use to drive. Made the commute a lot more tolerable for sure. Now just use a 64GB low profile USB memory stick in my 2017 Mustang - and SiriusXM as well.

Definitely been an interesting path to get where we are - when all the portable super hifi stuff started coming out back in 2014/2015 it really pulled me in.

Really loving my DX220!

Cheers,
Tim
