My iem making beeping noise when my phone gets to close to the chord

I just realised that if my iphone touches or gets near it my headphones make beeping noise but if I put my hand in the chord nothing happens. What causes this problem?

Radio frequency interference / noise.  My iPhone wrecks havoc with all my tube amps when its closer than ~18 inches.  It goes away when I put it on airplane mode.  So its either the wifi or cellular radio thats doing it.
