Here are the lists of things my ideal Dap should have. I find these to be quite realistic.

1. SQ equal or better than Kenwood HD60GD9EC. I sold the Mediakag and
just bought Zune 80GB and pretty disappointed with the SQ of Zune. I
can no longer hear some of the background chorus and instruments on
same exact songs (especially with lower bitrate song files). Zune's just
too harsh and bit tiring on SE530. Embedded (separate) amp in addition to
main sounding core like Mediakag would be nice.

2. Smaller or same dimension as Zune 80GB with at least 3.2" LCD screen.

3. At least 80GB storage but prefer 160GB

4. Battery life should be about 20 hours for songs and 4 hours for Video

5. Able to play Video (MP4, AVI, WMV, etc)

6. No proprietary cable but connection via regular USB cable so the device
can be hooked up to any PC, any time.

7. No crappy software like iTunes and Zune, but simple intuitive software to
manager the music library with simple drag & drop capability. The device
must show as a USB drive.

8. More playing options than simple, play - all, random, genre, artist, album.
I was thinking more like RioDJ with many interesting options such as ..play
song added no later than <date>, rarely played, popular, album of day,
favorite, years, etc.

9. Software should support 64bit system, bug free..

10. FM/AM radio to listen some talk shows.

Now, is this too much to ask?

Well, I mean, i have a feeling an "ideal" dap would be the same for everybody, unless we were to approach this question realistically and then in that case, it would not be ideal. but enough semantics...

Made of titanium, really small, at least 120 Gb of solid state memory, high-def color touchscreen, digital out, headphone out, line out, supports all file types: audio and video, wifi ready, loads of battery life, am/fm/digital/satellite radio receiver. am i forgetting anything?

I call it: the phkd awesomebox 5000.

Being able to (painlessly) directly transfer songs to my iPod like a USB drive, without using iTunes. I seriously love Apple's DAPs but I absolutely loathe iTunes.

Here's my list:
Long battery life
Drag & drop file transfer
Colour screen - album art
wifi/internet radio & regular FM and DAB
mini usb cable
30Gb minimum
Chargeable via USB or DC in.

Quite happy with my Iriver H120 and Archos 604wifi combo for the moment - but would like the best elements of both of these on one little machine really. Dunno if that means ipod with a 3rd party program like ephod or anapod ?? Not even sure if they work with with 6th gen machines. Zunes are not widely available yet in the UK -I think I'l stick with what I have for the moment

1. 30 hrs battery life minimum
2. Screen like Zune 80
3. UI like Zune
4. Extras similar to Meizu M5 (sleep timer, A LOT of EQ options)
5. Excellent audio quality (Wolfson chip?)
6. 64gb flash
7. Thickness of new Sony NWZ-A829
8. Included software that doesn't suck
9. No hiss
10. GAPLESS!
11. Support all major formats (mp3, WMA, ogg, FLAC, etc)
12. Has plenty of available accessories (vaja case anyone?)
13. Touch strip (Zune or Meizu)

I think that's what I want. I don't care about line out so much, since all that does is end up costing me more money while making my portable setup less so...

#1- 160gb Hard drive storage. (for fast transfers) (Please no more flash daps)
#2- 3 inch widescreen. Form factor no bigger than the current Zune preferably smaller.
#3- Digital "line-out" bypassing the internal DAC.
#4- "Line-out" without the need for subpack or dock.
#5- Dock with RCA outputs.
#6- Flac and Ape support.
#7- SDHC support.
#8- Folder and ID3 browsing.
And of course no need for software or atleast give us the choice, but that goes without saying. And of course good sound quality that also goes without saying.

For those of you wanting 64gb or lower of flash storage that's really right around the corner now that there are 32gb players and 32gb flash cards.
I personally have the D2 and like it but I want much more storage for all my growing music collection and flash is so slow at transferring and is still not enough space. I'm really getting tired of all these flash daps coming out. Especially when you have a dap obsession, I think if a player like that would come out I'd be done.

To the rest of of the posters: keep dreaming, some of the demands are unrealistic to the point of stupid. So many requests that seem more oriented about looking good vs sounding good, pff.
