Gotcha,Im imagining it....

Confirmation bias says that you could be.

Not sure what you want anyone to take from that.

But if you want to see how much power the K7XX need, Innerfidelity has measured it: http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/AKGK7XX.pdf. According to Schiit's specs, Magni has more than enough power for it to reach moderately loud levels with plenty of headroom. Do the math.

Right,do you understand the term "correctly"? I dont care if Innerfidelity says the Magni can get it loud(it can),it still makes the bass ragged. I own the combo,i kinda know What im talking about.

Of all my headphones they are the 2nd power hungriest, behind my HE500s,but not as amp picky as ATH AD2000s

Gotta admit, you got balls to tell someone who owns the combo that theyre wrong, must be what happens when one posts 1000 times a day to get to Supremus

So I'm gonna highjack this thread a little as I´m in somewhat the same situation as the OP.

I´m also looking for my first set of openabacks and I´m going to drive them with a FiiO X7 and a VE Runabout 2.0 amp. I listen to alot of different genres and music but at the moment I´m stuck upon NewRetro and acoustic folk...

I have a pair of closed Oppo PM3 with upgraded silvercable that I really like for the crisp and separation and above average soundstage.

I´m looking for openbacks with the huge soundstage, both width and depth, that has quality bass. By that I mean fast and with punch without blurrying the mids. I´m no basshead but I want to feel the bass when it hits.

I have large ears so they need to be big to cover them. Detachable cable is a plus.

This all started because I objected to your sweeping generalization about the K7XX and amps in general that "To be clear the 7XX is NOT an easy headphone to drive correctly." , and I explained that others seem to find things different. I have used the K7XX with various amps, and I don't find it to be difficult to drive "correctly" as long as an amp has enough power and the OP has selected such an amp. Since my personal experience tends to agree with many others, I see no reason to buy into your generalization as an absolute truth as you seem to be insisting. You don't have to agree with me any more than I have to agree with you, but there is no reason to get nasty if you don't.

As for the Magni in particular, the science suggests that is should have more than enough power to power the K7XX well based on Schiits specs. I'm an objectivist who believes that sighted comparisons can be wrong when it comes to electronics, and that when one person's individual evaluation goes against what many others have said, there can be other explanation. Unless there is something seriously wrong with the Magni's output, doesn't seem to be a logical explanation as to why it would perform poorly. I see no reason to quickly discount the "thousands" of other people you describe as "ignorant," as you have done when confirmation bias is one explanation that could explain what you have heard, especially since I have owned some Schiit products and testimonials about the Magni seem to support that it does what the specs say it will do. Note that this is not insisting you are wrong, but leaning heavily toward the opposite viewpoint as more likely right, IMO. So lighten up and discuss the audio and leave me out of the discussion.

Question: Do you own the Magni? Have you spent a lot of time listening to your K7XX thru your Magni? When you answer "yes" get back to me.

I didnt get "nasty",simply stating facts. You average over one hundred posts per day,and at least this one in particular you have the audacity to tell me im wrong because you read about it in the K7XX thread.
I do not go around regurgitating stuff I read elsewhere.I only post about what I have experience with.Regurgitating info is not helpful.

and for the record i provided you with plenty of links to reviews previously that stated the K7XX isnt a simple headphone to drive correctly, yet you chose to ignore those.

If you want top be left out of the discussion stop telling someone with firsthand knowledge that theyre wrong just because you read Innerfidelity.

If you want to talk about the audio, then discuss the audio. If you talk about me again on the forum, I will flag you. Last chance.

Hey relax guys.! I need your recommendations and suggestions to finalise the headphone for me. For me you both are Gurus and know a lot about headphones to guide me correctly.

Ok, I was searching and reading about KXX and other AMPs. Found a place where I can listen to the sound of headphones. I know its not sounding right but at least something to find the difference in these headphones.

https://soundcloud.com/sonic-sense-pro-audio

They have a Youtube channel as well
https://www.youtube.com/user/SonicSenseProAudio

What do you suggest? Is it ok to listen to these recordings or you feel its not right? I have also considered AKG K712 in my list after listening to it on this soundcloud.

I listened to these recordings and found HD650 very close to my taste but a bit worried if it will get to harsh or bright? I was listening to these recordings on my Bose QC25 (these are kept just for travel purpose and I someone don't like to listen music through them).

Sadly they have not posted any recording to HD600.

The AKG recordings posted sounded a bit bass heavy on my Bose QC25. Like I said, I dont know if its right to listen to these recordings and make out the difference. May be I need to listen to them through my loudspeakers to get the idea.

If I can tweak the bass and make it a bit less, AKG would sound very warm overall.

The HD-650's are anything but bright IMHO.

Listening to recordings of audio equipment is about like shopping for a new TV by watching videos of other TVs. Always going to be colored by the equipment you use to listen/watch with. Imagine if when you had demoed your Epos M22i if someone had applied a lot of different EQ, only you didn't know exactly where and how much EQ had been applied. Would have been uber difficult to evaluate them, right? My belief is that it can mislead more than it can provide accurate information to inform a decision, and I've seen people buy based on such demos and then be disappointed that the equipment didn't sound as they expected.

no chance HD650s being too bright, and if they are you'd find K7XX excruciating.

Makes absolute sense. When I had to buy my Epos, I auditioned at least 20 loudspeakers. In fact, for Epos, I asked the dealer that I need these at home for auditioning because the sound changes with the dimension and whats inside the room. Demo rooms usually are treaded and when I listened to Epos even in my room, I was satisfied.

I am just being stupid knowing myself that listening to these audio files in soundcloud does not make sense at all. But its my helplessness which is driving me crazy.

I have a plan of going to Montreal in december to meet my brother and now thinking of waiting till then rather that making the shot in the dark and ending up in frustration may be. But want to keep this thread live to discuss AMPs and DACs.

Till the time, I will just get a Dunu Titan IEM the keep the music flow in my ears.

For DACs, do you guys find Modi 2 Uber good enough or you recommend something else? Or may be AMP/DAC combo? The good thing I found with Modi Uber that it has multiple inputs, like USB, Co-Ax, Optical. I can connect my PC/Laptop with Usb and CD player with Coax and Airport express with optical for Airplay.

When it comes to buying off the Internet with headphones, just have to find a place with a good return policy. Unlike with buying many speakers online, if you don't like them, return shipping is not too high and a reasonable demo fee. That's how I treat it. A trade off for the good prices one can find online.

I have Modi first generation. Good DAC for the money. The Modi 2 arguably is a good enough DAC that spending more results in greatly decreasing returns if any significant difference since the Modi 2 already measures very accurate within the range of human hearing.

In the same price range of the Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber is the Audio GD-NFB-11 combined DAC/headphone amp. Worth looking into if you would like a combined unit.
