I'm fairly sure it's not the cans, I thought maybe the internal headphone amp in the iPod and iRiver was the cause but the line out should reveal if that is the real problem.
My DT770-250 sounds like poop

it's a poopy headphone so it's doing its job.

Well it looks like the headphone out on my iRiver and iPod are responsible for the poop!
When I got home I connected my DT770 and Hornet to the headphone out on my PC which sounded much better. I then tried it on the headphone out on my receiver... success! It sounds great and the Hornet was doing a fantastic job and sounded awesome! Once I can start using the line out I should be set but I'm relieved that it is not my amp!
