Musical Paradise M2-D2 AK4490 Balanced Dac Reviews?

petersch over at Canuckaudiomart forum has all of the modules. You could go there and ask him. The AK4499 are not available for now so you should hang on to them.
The ESS9038pro chips are said to be more analytical.
The AKM4499 have far greater extension and bass definition. Without question the 4499 bass output is far nicer than the ESS9038. If you've heard the 4497 the 4499 is more of a good thing. I prefer the Sabre 9038 in my system but when listening with the KOSS 950's the 4499 wins every time. I think the base 4490 chips are excellent as well, each step up the AKM line builds on their signature sound and brings more of everything to the table. I'm definitely a Sabre chip kind of guy but I love the AKM chips for the deep bass and dynamics and the ESS for finesse with Jazz and Classical.

Does anybody know if the Sophia Electric 274b is fine in the MK1? Or do I need to use the 274b Aqua?

Hi all

It is with a heavy heart that I decided today to place my M2-D2 on my local classifieds.

I've enjoyed the musical paradise for over two years, which is a long time for me, but I've finally found a worthy replacement.

I wish you all the best with your rolling adventures.

In case you're wondering, I've bought an Abbas audio 4.1 SE.

I had a Abbas audio DAC in version 3.1SE last year , but when compared with the MP D2 , I liked the MP DAC more and therefore the AbbasAudio was quickly sold and the MP D2 remained to please me with its sound .

My MP DAC is going up next week after enjoying it for over 2 years. I bought a used Lampizator that is just stunning. Granted it's more money, but wow!

I'm surprised by that. My pcm 4.1 is clearly superior to my ears.

My mp used a U52 rectifier and cv181 tubes and sabre chip. The Abbas is more natural and has a better soundstage.

I use it with a Kr Audio p135 directly heated triode preamp.

This preamp allows me to hear beautiful timber of the Abbas and I definitely prefer it.

The 3.1 is a tda chipset so maybe the pcm is better.

Abbas dacs are truly an art piece. From what I have read, even though the version spec of the dac is roughly the same ie: v2.2, 3.1. 4.2 etc, they are still a boutique product, to which some parts are substituted to what is available. No doubt the Abbas would be a class above the MP dac. My end game dac would be a Lampizator, but my version of the MP for the moment is enough.

Checking the Musical Paradise website it seems almost all of the products are "out of stock" now... I know Garry mentioned that the current MP-D2 motherboards cannot be made right now because of the AKM fire (the MP-D2 uses AKM receiver chips) but maybe the other products are affected by supply chain issues as well?

Yes, like all other the rest due to COVID lated problems(lockdowns, minimum outputs, closed shop etc.) . The streamer/upsampler/format converter component of my DAC was grossly delayed due firstly by component shortages and later by redesign (due to former).

I just hope it is still backwards compatible with the MK1
