Musical Paradise M2-D2 AK4490 Balanced Dac Reviews?

MP-DX: Dueland Cast 0.01uf Pure Silver Foil, Jupiter Copper & Foil 2.2uf, General Electric 6SN7-GTB, ESS 9039 Pro, AS338 Femto Clock.

This has the best bass than any other DAC that I've used and the detail retrieval/imaging with the upgraded caps is out of this world. Using Airplay through the raspberry pi thats on board, it's so convenient and sounds great. Such awesome kit!

Congratulations on your DAC, and bravo for the choices you've made regarding GE tubes (which must be getting scarce ?) and the choice of output capacitors, which are really very interesting.

With this DAC, the variations are almost infinite, depending on the choices each of us makes concerning these two essential elements: output capacitors and tubes. Great choice, too, for the Duelund bypass capacitors. I've also been able to see for myself just how much harmonic richness and subtlety they bring to the musical result.

I really hesitated between the fabulous Jupiter condensers, which bring an almost magical transparency, and the Miflex, which emphasize the impact of the low frequencies and, above all, the carnal and bewitching side of the voices.

You don't mention it, but perhaps you already have? Treat yourself to a Synergistic Research Purple fuse (5 or 6.3 A) and you're in musical heaven.

For its price, this DAC is a giant !

Thanks! The purple fuse is on my list of items to get. I also just got in a pair of 0.01 Dueland CAST Tin/Copper bypass caps as an option to roll when the detail from the silver Duelands can be fatiguing. I actually got a couple of 6SN7 pairs, GE and Raytheon from a local vintage audio shop for only $40USD a pair. Both matched and tested new in front of me. I find the 6SN7 more holographic than the 6933, which I had a bunch already from the MP-D1.

Your description of the MIFLEX is intriguing, I may try them in the future.

I didn't plan on using this balanced but I had some old 2,2uf Mundorf Supremes, which don't sound that great on their own compared to Jupiter but when mixed in parallel with the Jupiters on the other balanced channels (no by-pass caps) have some interesting results. I also used the Raytheon tubes in the balanced L/R channels, they sound almost identical to the GE's. This provides a velvet-like decay over the entire frequency spectrum, while retaining detail, that is just magical. It's not just the tubes in balanced, I've tried other cap combinations in balanced with same tubes that did not impress.

Like you said the variations are endless. No other DAC from other brands offer this. They are missing out big time.
