God this is a depressing album, but it's really great...

I love Pedro the Lion...One of my all time favorites.....And that album "Its hard to Find a Friend" is my all time favorite by him....Also if you like that album then you will like his newest album "Control". The Lyrics and story behind Control are amazing.

Yup, I've already posted about that in the Masterpiece thread....Control is a truly amazing album. I think it's my favorite album of his, though I like It's Hard To Find A Friend a lot as well (it's growing on me). Winners Never Quit is equally great albeit a bit short. Very emotional, moving music, at least for me.

CAREFUL ! yours is a truly terrible story but don't let the devastation take you too far where it becomes too difficult, nearly impossible to trust and love others. Of course you are indeed devastated, but in your ability and strength to trust and love others you will find a way out of the pain. Not in dening.

I had to say this. Love is the best thing we got !

for me, almost anything from The Cure (usually Faith, Bloodflowers, or Disintegration) and Joy Division (usually Closer) if i'm feeling downcast.

if i'm angry i'll play The Cure's Pornagraphy or Wish, Radiohead's Kid A, and Primal Scream's XTRMNTR.

for something that will cheer me up, usually something i find fun and enjoyable. it's not exactly uplifting music, but it makes me happy. i usually reach for Ride's OX4-The Best Of, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's Singles, New Order's Pop-Disc 1 from the Retro Box Set, Human League's Dare!, Oasis' Definately Maybe, Blur's Parklife, and Iron Maiden's Live After Death (don't ask why!)

it also helps that some particular songs take me back to an event. some songs are attached to some really happy memories and every now and then i use these songs and find them more uplifting than anything else.

i hope everything works out OK.

Hi fyrfytrhoges. I am really sorry to hear that. I actually cannot believe it. It seems to me so damn unfair to be with a woman 14 years and then something like that happening. Why?

You said that it will take a long time till you trust a woman again. I dont think so. Trust can be spontaneous and this time you will know it better if this trust is worth it.

About the music when feeling bad all I think that a person should have tw stages First you cannot realise what bad has happened. It's just too much to realize and you are depressed and comes the stage where you like cant do anything and listen to NIN and other sad and depressing songs. Then comes the next phase where your self trust and confidence and independence raises and you start feeling better and that you can live through it.Hard rock with attitude suits this phase. I think this process is kind of natural and helps someone realise and get over a situation best.
When I am really sad I dont always feel like listening to something but it does me good when I do.

Have you tried offspring SMASH album? Its full of energy and anger. It will do you VERY good and its a good album too.

And to conclude a song which you MUST DEFINATELY listen to is
GUNS N' ROSES' "14 Years" from the album use your illusion 2 which best suits your case

I try and feel the sunshine
You bring the rain

You know ...I've been the beggar ...
I've played the thief
I was the dog...they all tried to beat

But it's been
14 years of silence
It's been
14 years of pain
It's been
14 years that are gone forever
And I'll never have again

Well I'm past the point of concern
It's time to play
These last 4 years of madness
Sure put me straight
Don't get back 14 years
In just one day
So hard to keep my own head
Just go away
You know ...just like a hooker she said
Nothin's for free

Here's my short list of albums for the angry phase of a breakup, for whatever it's worth. Sometimes the whole album is cathartic, with others I've identified the explosive songs:

Nirvana - In Utero
NIN - Broken
Tool - Undertow
Minor Threat - Complete Discography
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy ep (key track: the Pappy mix)
Deftones: Around the Fur
Eminem: Marshall Mathers LP
Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker
Kool Keith - Dr. Octagonecologyst (key tracks: I'm Destructive, Halfsharkalligatorhalfman)
Spoon - Telefono (key track: Not Turning Off)

For a ton of appropiate mixtapes, try http://tinymixtapes.com/features/amg.phtml They've got a mix for every conceivable situation, although many of them tend towards a indie/hipster aesthetic...

fyrfytrhoges, it can only get better from here. You should keep us posted so we can recommend songs for your next phase

Listening to cheer up music never seems to help me. With that in mind:

Silverchair - Frogstomp (depressed)
Eve 6 - Eve 6 (cynical)
Cold - 13 Ways to Bleed Onstage (bitter/pissed)
Savatage - The Wake of Magellan (melancholy but powerful)
Caroline's Spine - Monsoon (careful though)
