When I am sad, playing sad music just makes me sadder.

I recommend "Don't Worry Be Happy"

Can't think of anything right now, but just wanted to post and offer my condolences. Breaking up sucks, no two ways about it. Even if it's amicably, even if you're "in the right", or even if one was "in the wrong", doesn't matter, it always sucks.

I tend to go for the dark stuff when I'm depressed, but that's just me.

Tonio K., "H-A-T-R-E-D", comes to mind.

My condolences fyrfytrhoges. Just thought you might like to know that Freud had a name for this type of situation; a defense mechanism called reaction formation. It's essentially a denial and reversal of feelings. Examples would be the nun who preaches about the dangers of alcohol and turns out to be an alcoholic herself, or the person who is unconsciously attracted to the same sex and develops an intense hatred of gays.

What you need is some good uplifting Irish jig music. Check out this group called Gaelic Storm, that brightens my mood on any day, same with some good old light hearted Weezer (though not Irish jig).

fyrfytrhoges:

I know exactly what you are going through - well, almost. I just got out of a 3 year relationship with my girlfriend. I found that music can help out a lot, as well as make things worse - depending on the song selection.

I find that, to me, if I listen to anything new it helps out. I seem to enjoy listening to something new that I haven't heard before moreso than something I listened to a lot while i was with my gf.

I don't know. Maybe that is obvious, but I thought i would give my 2 cents as well.
