These days the SBT is getting cheaper and cheaper...I found one new for 229. That is about the same price you would pay for a decent MB and a hard drive, then you would still have to buy some ram, case etc. Set up what ever spare computer you already have as the server and take the 2-3 minutes to install the operating system tweaks and you are done.

At the moment I'm stuck between an alyx board linux setup and one of these fit pc boxes also with linux.
Both of the above could cost more than 229 and require days/weeks [for me] to set up.
