Yup! I'm about to agree that the weight of the MS2i isn't a problem after all!!

The problem is; I'm still on the fence between the MS2i and the RS-2 from an SQ question.

I may have a new concern however:

How might I add weight to RS-2??!!

I had been doing my weight testing with a couple of 11/16"(12 pt)sockets to simulate the 100 gm weight difference between the MS-1 and MS2i and I realize that even though I had "completed" the test after a six hour mini-marathon; that I am continuing to listen with the weights installed because the cans are more stable and thereby more comfortable.

You won't know for sure as your socket test thingy is NOT the MS-2 itself! Believe me when I say I had the same concerns prior to getting the phones but it turned out to be a needless worry. I can personally wear the MS-2 for hours (with the flat pads) even if I still prefer my Senns sound- and comfort-wise.

Regards.

What continues to amaze me is the adaptability of us human types. When I began this weight determination exercize, the weight was oppresive both in pressure to the ears as well as discomfort from the headband.

Now it's changed to being more stable and in fact more comfortable with the added weight!

I had expected some psycho-acoustic acclimation, but such rapid physical adaptability has me amazed.

.......you were right from the get-go!!

interesting way to get yourself ready for the ms2i. where on the ms1 did you attach the sockets? the ms1 were much more comfortable to me, due to their light weight. on the ms2 with reversed senn414 pads, the earcups tended to angle downwards and put a lot of pressure on the top of my head and earlobes.

When I first started the test I would put the sockets right over the end of the height adjusters, but(and it may have been my imagination)the pads seemed to be forced inward at the bottom.

So I abandoned the "Uncle Martin" antenna look and tried the "ear-ring" style with the sockets tied just below the cups. It seemed to work better that way.

After I finished the test I just(lazy)left the sockets in sight on the computer desk where I surprized myself by reaching up and putting them back on the next day cause the cans seemed more stable!

I also run with reversed Senns 414s.

Mine look like that one photo a few months back where the angle at the top and bottom of the pads angles "in" at quite a steep angle giving a fairly deep pocket about 2 5/8" across.

I may have just the "right" size ears for this application as it seems that my ears would just kinda "Snuggle Right On In There" and fit just right! When I had the pads installed "normally" it seemed as though the surface was "too big and flat" and the cans would just slip and slide all over the place.

I stll notice the weight; especially if I try to look down at something. And the headband IS pressing down a bit more than I'd prefer, but the stability(which is sorta like a friendly "Hi! I'm Here!" feeling) helps make up for it!

What's gonna happen when I try bowls and flats?

I dunno.

......kind of a spooky thought though!

This whole "Doc Brown" experimentation is kind of spooky.

Try going to a meet and trying out the headphones. I just don't think the methodology can actually simulate what the actual headphones are going to feel like let alone base a "buy" on it. I've had both the 325i and RS-2 and didn't find one to be more comfortable than the other. The 325i just weighs a little more and is less stable on the head, while the RS-2 is lighter and more secure on the head. I stuck with the RS-2 because of the sound signature and that was it.

Yeah...I know; the Doc Brown experiment was a bit outlandish, but it was a fun way to use my phones rather than just listening to them!! And it told me that I could handle the weight......I think!

Besides if I packed up the Wife and kids and filled up the gas tank and dragged everybody to a meet and fed and lodged them for a couple days, why shucks; I'd spend as much as if I'd bought a new set of cans and tried them out at home!

Seriously though......

But......ah.....you like your RS-2s huh?

That's what I'm looking at in my "Battle of the Twos" The MS2i or RS-2!

I like the thoughts of the MS2i since I understand that it sounds much like my MS-1s, but yet there are a number of things that I like about the RS-2 and for music other than rock(over half my collection)I find the MS-1s already to be almost a bit bright.

For my final cans I think I would prefer something just a bit warmer.

But for what it's worth; the weight test was kinda fun!

The 325i's are considered bright, but I did like them. After 2 weeks of owning the RS-2's I did some A/B testing with different types of my favorite music and RS-2 came out the winner. A lot of people claim the highs are recessed with RS-2 but I really don't see that, but in comparison with 325i- yes. Honestly, the weight should not be an issue, it's the sound sig you are after. The weight between RS-2 and 325i was of no consequence whatsoever. Just a bit of a different "feel" to each.

Yup, the Alessandro website is the convienient place to buy Alessandro headphones.

They don't have much there in the way of pictures. Last time I checked they didn't even show the latest version of the MS2 which came out in January of '05!!

....it isn't officially called the MS2i, but that's what it's generally called here in this forum and other forums as well. It gets the name MS2"i" because it was updated at the same time as the Grado SR-325 became SR-325i and "i" is easier to type than "Fatboy"!!

But there are also tons of good photos of them in this forum too, it'll just take a few minutes in forum searches to find them. It's worth it though!!
