MP3 Player with large font

One thing I noticed from the review was that it seemed to use album artwork as wallpaper whilst playing tracks, if you were visually impaired that might actually be quite a nice feature.

Being disabled myself, I know what a total pain in the backside minor things can be to a user with some form of impairment, be it visual or physical.

Cool. I just watched the video from ABI. The only downsides I see are the reviewer mentioned the side buttons weren't Rev and Fwd. They were on the top and bottom. Of course for someone that hasn't used an mp3 player before it wouldn't be a problem. Seems like the player is only MTP? Still that's not the end of the world.

I was concerned about the font size when selecting a file to play. In the video it looks like as you scroll through the file list the currently selected file is nice and big in the center.

I've got to be honest, this player is what I said I wanted, but I'm not sure. I was really hoping a Fuse or little Zune would work. I may end up with the player after our traveling. I was hoping to pick something I would like to have later.

I've got a Clip+ that he could use, the screen is bright, but small. Is there a stable version of Rockbox that would give me a bigger font on the Clip+? I've been trying to follow the Rockbox progress on the Clip, but it doesn't sound quite ready yet.

Rockbox for the Clip+ has been taken down from the site for a while as it's too unstable at the moment, I do however have an older version that is more stable than the later versions.

Ipod Shuffle doesnt even have a screen to read, although its featureless really.

Yeah, the shuffle and stone were suggestions in a similar thread I found. I guess those would be fine if you were on shuffle play all the time, or never wanted to listen to a particular song. It would definitely make things simple. I don't think I could get by without a screen.

My plan at the moment is to try one of the older (more stable) versions of Rockbox on a Clip+ I have. I may look in the for sale sections or around town for a Fuse V1.

Actually the new Shuffle isn't as mad an idea as it seems, again it's got the same VoiceOver feature as the 5th gen Nano, you can now organise your music into playlists and browse them; whilst having voiceover tell you the name of the playlist, then the song etc - The voice is actually very clear.

The only real downside is your locked into using Apple headphones because of the remote or paying for a third party accessory from Scoshe or Belkin.

Having actually owned a 3rd gen shuffle I can tell you that it's not that bad in the sound department, but I did sell it - The reason, well as simple as it was to use, it was too damn small, think along the lines of a third shorter than a regular stick of gum and half the thickness

The remote is on the right hand ear piece and I'm disabled with the loss of mobility to both arms, having to lift my arms up to change anything is a pain in a true sense of the word!

Update... I have loaded rockbox on my clip+. I can make the font larger, but with the tiny screen I'm not sure it's really what I'm looking for. Navigating through the menu displays options that I think would be confusing to my intended user.

I didn't realize iPods had the VoiceOver feature. That would definitely make players like the shuffle more user friendly. I'd still rather have a screen.

A 2G refurb Fuze would run you about $30. Rockbox it, then use a GUI theme that suits you. Use the extra $20 for an 8G microSDHC expansion card.

If you eBay, just ask the seller for the firmware version. They'll usually tell you instantly.

Thanks. I am considering the Fuze. That was one of my first choices. I gave up finding a V1. I did ask one seller on ebay for the firmware version. They said the player was wrapped up and they didn't want to open it.

I ended up buying a Fuze v2. I've put Rockbox on it. It is not stable, but should work for my purposes. Sounds really good.
