mp3 player 10 yr anniversary - your first??

some really crappy no-name 256mb brand that my dad gave to me when I was in 7th grade (7-8 years ago?). It would hold like 60 songs and I would be like "Wow, this is like having 5 CDs in 1!"

First one I bought was IRiver e10 from last summer for ~90 bucks.

My first was an iRiver H340. I still consider it the best.

Sadly the charger connector literally snapped off. I probably could have fixed it but I chose to move on to a Zen Vision M at the time. Really I was primarily disappointed by it, MTP was annoying, and I just felt like I had little control over the whole deal. No Rockbox sucked too.

Now I've got a Cowon D2. Liking it a lot so far. Once Rockbox is fully functional it'll be perfect.

^^^
edit: wow we posted at the same time and kinda followed the same line H300 series to Zen Vision M to (I was thinking about buying D2 also lol)

It started with a RioRiot. It was huge and clunky and only 20GB

Then after a year or two with that, I bought an iRiver H320 which lasted me until last year when I got hit by a car and it broke.

edit:It still works actually but only turns on when its connected to an outlet first then taken off. Buttons work fine after that, but without an outlet first, the on button won't work at all even with a full charge. I've think I can fix it by changing the battery and replacing the harddrive. I've had this player for like...3 and 1/2 years before the accident.

My friend then gave me her pink Creative Zen Vision M which the screen broke a month later.

Now I'm just using my PSP.

Waiting to see if Apple updates or lowers the prices on the iPod/Touch and upcoming releases from other companies before I buy another one.

Rio 600 64MB

It's been for a swim in the bathtub, and still works!

My first as well (actually may have been the 800), but mine died after contact with a tiny bit of water.

Second hand iRiver iHP140 from eBay in 2005.

Since then I accumulated 3 iHP140's and one iHP120. All of them warhorses still going strong and I have no desire to replace them with anything else.

No, sir, unless there's digital out on the player, they all stay with me.

Interesting post since I have had a ton of mp3 players since they have come on the scene.

Mine is the original 5GB ipod with the mechanical scroll wheel. It's a brick but it still works and still gets about 3-4 hours per charge.

Favorite was a tie between the 30gb ipod with the touch scroll wheel and monochrome screen and the original 4gb mini which i still use for running

Celebrating 10 Years of MP3 Players

What was YOUR first player and when did you buy it?

Mine was a Creative 5 mb Zen... purchased in January 2005 (I had a cd player that played mp3 cd's before the Zen). I still have the Zen, but have added the Creative Zen Wav (built-in speaker), and the Sony A-818. The Sony is my current favorite.

Really late reply to this thread, but i just joined head-fi

My first and still working mp3 player is an iRiver h120 bought in 2004.

I also have a PSP and a Nokia N91 (both dec 2006) for audio as well but I feel the SQ on the H-120 is unmatched by both

Really?

I think the SQ of a music-centric DAP[and one famed for sounding great] would beat senseless musical playback of a super-gameboy and a cellphone.
